HiFi accessories - speaker feet & decoupling

Spikes under loudspeakers are a decades-old standard - and actually work well on concrete screed. On laminate, parquet or floorboards, however, they transmit exactly what they are supposed to prevent: Floor vibrations emanating from the speakers travel through the subfloor, reach the device via the rack and trigger microphonics that damage the sound. The result is a sound image that is blurred, dynamically limited and spatially less precise - without you even noticing it without direct comparison. The bFly-audio TALIS consistently apply the opposite principle: active decoupling instead of coupling, with a multi-layer absorber system that is specifically matched to the weight of the speaker.

The TALIS are the logical further development of the tried-and-tested b.DISC washers from bFly-audio - and they go a decisive step further: instead of a passive underlay element, a complete absorber base with screw connection and integrated POM glider on the underside is used here. Developed and manufactured in Germany by Reinhold Schäffer and his team in Schwabbruck, Bavaria - a manufacturer that has been working exclusively on the decoupling optimization of hi-fi components for more than a decade and consistently focuses on achievable, affordable results instead of audiophile surcharges.

MLA technology
Multi Layer Adjustment - several coordinated absorber layers specifically filter different frequency ranges
Glider made from POM
Protection for sensitive floors - speakers remain movable even after installation
Basic & Pro - M & L
Four configurations for weights from a few to 400 kg - always weight-optimized
Structure & materials

The outer shell of the TALIS is machined from solid aluminum - solid, dimensionally accurate, without tolerances. Inside is the actual absorber system, which bFly-audio calls Multi Layer Adjustment (MLA): Several layers of different absorption materials are specifically matched to each other so that each layer filters a different frequency range. The interaction of these layers results in a broadband and more effective attenuation than each individual material could achieve on its own.

The BASIC version consists of a disk and a ring of the company's own cork-rubber granulate - a proven material with good damping and recovery properties that has long been used in the hi-fi sector. The PRO version supplements this structure with a slice of the polymer Sorbothane, which is separated from the cork-rubber ring by a thin purple foil. This targeted separation of the two absorber layers is not an aesthetic decision, but a functional one: it prevents mechanical coupling of the layers and allows each layer to work independently in its own frequency range - resulting in even better absorption behavior.

Sorbothane is a viscoelastic polyurethane plastic with exceptional vibration and impact energy absorption. It is used in aerospace, high-performance sports and medical technology - and is known in the hi-fi sector for its broadband damping effect. Thanks to its specific material characteristics, it converts kinetic vibration energy into heat particularly efficiently without transferring the energy to other frequency ranges.

On the underside of both versions is the glider made of POM plastic (polyoxymethylene) - a technical high-performance plastic with very good sliding and damping properties. Its special shape distributes the vibration energy evenly over the contact surface. A practical side effect: speakers can be easily moved on the floor with the TALIS feet fitted without leaving scratches - a considerable advantage over spikes or rigid plate feet for fine positioning in the listening room.

Sound effect in practice

The trade press is remarkably unanimous in its assessment. HiFi-IFAs aptly describes the effect of the TALIS Pro: "The line management remains the same, but it is more accurate - voices are more clearly separated from the speakers, the bass range gains structure and contour, and the sound image as a whole appears more focused. Lite magazine emphasizes that the multi-layer absorber construction prevents uncontrolled vibration propagation and protects sound precision. Hifi-Today reports faster transient response and decay of the chassis, more colorful sound and a significantly improved spatiality - and compares the gain to the difference between a blunted and a sharpened pencil.

The effect is particularly audible on laminate, parquet and floorboards: the subfloor does not resonate, the bass loses its unwanted rumble and gains definition, and the entire system sounds calmer and more effortless. Anyone who has heard this difference once will hardly want to listen without it again.

Variants & size selection

The TALIS are available in two sizes, depending on the speaker weight: Size M (Ø 42 mm, height 15 mm) supports up to 50 kg per set of 4 and is suitable for compact floorstanding speakers and bookshelf speakers on stands. Size L (Ø 55 mm, height 17 mm) is designed for up to 400 kg per set - sufficient for the heaviest floor-standing speakers and subwoofers. Weight adjustment is not just a mechanical issue: the absorber materials inside are matched to the typical resonance frequencies of the respective weight range, as heavy cabinets vibrate differently to light ones.

An M8 threaded rod in lengths of 15 mm and 25 mm is supplied as standard for the screw connection. If you have speakers with a different thread size, you can optionally convert to M6, M10 or M12 - an important flexibility, as speaker manufacturers do not use a standardized thread format. If the spikes are permanently installed and cannot be removed, bFly-audio recommends the matching b.DISC washers with milled spike mount instead, which use the same absorber structure but are placed on the spike side.
