Tonearm lights & turntable lamps – see what sounds good
Light at the right moment – for safe cueing of the stylus.
A turntable lamp makes precise cueing easier, helps protect delicate cartridges from mishaps and improves handling when putting on a record.
Whether listening in a dimmed living room, in a hi-fi studio or behind the DJ booth: with targeted light on the lead-in groove and tonearm, you always keep track.
Your benefits in use
Gentle cueing
The stylus finds the lead-in groove reliably even in low light – without skidding across the record.
Better visibility
See every detail when cleaning, caring for the stylus and aligning.
Professional look
Function and style appreciated by DJs and hi-fi fans alike.
Long-lasting LEDs
Energy-efficient with little heat – even for long sessions.
01
Why light at the turntable helps
Records are best enjoyed in a cosy atmosphere – but that is exactly when cueing the stylus becomes a test of patience. A tonearm light puts light exactly where it is needed, without lighting up the whole room.
Cueing
The lead-in groove is narrow – with light you hit it first time, even when lowering the arm by hand without the cue lever.
Finding a track
The gaps between tracks are easy to spot in raking light – ideal for cueing a particular song.
Care & inspection
Dust on the stylus, fluff on the record or the correct alignment of the cartridge become visible.
02
Types of turntable lamps
LED spots with clamp or base
Compact and bright – clamped to the plinth or rack, or freestanding next to the turntable.
Flexible gooseneck lamps
The flexible neck directs the light precisely onto the lead-in groove and stylus – versatile and accurate.
Plug-in lamps with BNC or XLR connector
For DJ mixers and consoles with a lamp socket: simply plug in, power comes straight from the unit.
Magnetic or adhesive models
Mounted and removed in no time – handy for changing set-ups.
Besides the design, pay attention to the colour of the light: warm white is pleasant and dazzles less, neutral white shows dust and details on the record particularly clearly. Many models can also be dimmed.
03
Connection & mounting
To make sure the lamp works reliably and does not affect the sound, it is worth a quick look at connection and placement.
Check connector and voltage
Lamp sockets on DJ mixers usually supply 12 V, but the pin assignment of XLR sockets differs between manufacturers. Before buying, compare plug type, voltage and pin assignment with your mixer's specifications.
Connections at a glance
Keep adapters and cables away from the tonearm
Plug-in power adapters and power cables can induce hum into the sensitive phono signal. Route them at a distance from tonearm, cartridge and phono cable.
Mount magnets at a distance
Magnetic bases belong on the plinth or rack – not near the cartridge, tonearm or platter.
Nothing touches the tonearm
The lamp must not touch the tonearm or platter and should not transmit vibrations. Use adhesive pads only on suitable, non-delicate surfaces.

Frequently asked questions about turntable lamps
Why do I need a turntable lamp?
It lights the lead-in groove, stylus and tonearm in a targeted way. You cue the stylus safely even in dimmed light, find track beginnings faster and see every detail during care and alignment.
Which lamp fits my DJ mixer?
Many mixers have a lamp socket with a BNC or XLR connector, usually at 12 V. As the pin assignment of XLR sockets varies by manufacturer, you should compare plug type, voltage and pin assignment before buying.
Can a lamp cause hum?
Plug-in power adapters and power cables can induce hum near the tonearm and phono cable. With enough distance from the phono lead, this is generally not an issue.
Do LED lamps get warm?
Hardly. LEDs produce very little heat and are therefore well suited to long sessions close to the record and cartridge.
Which light colour is better?
Warm white is pleasant and dazzles less, neutral white shows dust and details more clearly. Dimmable models can be adapted to any situation.
Are magnetic lamps safe to use?
Yes, if you attach them to the plinth or rack. Keep magnetic bases away from the cartridge, tonearm and platter, though.
Do I need a lamp if my turntable has a built-in light?
Some turntables already have a small stylus light. An additional gooseneck or spot lamp often provides more light and can be positioned more flexibly.
What can turntable lamps be combined with?
With accessories for stylus and record care as well as alignment tools. That way you keep everything in view while cleaning and adjusting.
