The Sieveking Sound XLR end caps are a useful accessory for all unused analog XLR inputs and outputs of HiFi components. The caps are made of copper and are coated with gold in a vacuum evaporation system. Inside there is an additional Teflon insert. This unique combination allows outstanding high frequency absorption.

The XLR end caps are put over unused inputs and outputs of HiFi components and fulfill three important functions there.

1. they protect the unused connection from corrosion, which is particularly advantageous for older devices without gold-plated contacts.

2. they prevent dust from entering the unusedRCA jacks, which would limit the conductivity of the contact surface during future use.

3. they prevent the penetration of high-frequency radiation into the device, since the open sockets now no longer protrude from the faraday cage of the housing like antennas, but are closed. Thus, electromagnetic radiation, which would otherwise be conducted directly into the device via the positive contact of the RCA jack, is consistently shielded and diverted to the chassis ground.

While functions 1 and 2 primarily affect the long-term durability of the device, function three is actually audible as well. The reduced radiation of RF signals has an effect in the form of lower background noise. The music appears clearer and, surprisingly, the listener often has the feeling that the music signal has now suddenly become quieter. This is a psychoacoustic illusion, since we initially associate the reduction in background noise with a lower volume.
The before-and-after effect becomes particularly clear if you have listened with the end caps on for a few days and then remove them again: the sound image suddenly seems undefined and less present.
The strength of the improvement in the sound image is strongly dependent on the components used. Devices with tube equipment and hi-fi systems on loudspeakers with high efficiency react more clearly than transistor amplifiers with high negative feedback on loudspeakers that require large amounts of current.
