Record player accessories - Vinyl care
Records are more sensitive than they look. The music information is contained in grooves that are 40 micrometers narrow - a diamond that glides over them transmits the tiniest dust particles directly into the phono system as an interference signal, which then amplifies these signals several times. What is tiny sounds big: crackling, popping, a slightly hazy sound impression - the cause is in the groove. The Thorens vinyl brush with goat hair and integrated velvet cushion eliminates this problem before each listening session: quickly, thoroughly and without any danger to vinyl or needle.
Goat hair is the most natural bristle material for record cleaning: The fibers are softer than nylon, more pliable than carbon fiber and still penetrate deep into the groove geometry, where dust and micro-fine particles settle. The integrated velvet pad picks up the loosened dirt - the combination of bristle and pad works in tandem, like a two-stage cleaning process in a single action. Thorens, one of the oldest and most renowned turntable brands in the world, relies on carefully selected natural materials - without compromising on softness and durability.
Goat hair bristles
Softer than nylon, gentler than carbon fiber - reach deep into the grooves without touching the vinyl surface
Dual action
Bristles loosen, velvet pad picks up - two cleaning steps in one tool
Antistatic
Reduces electrostatic charge - less dust attraction, less crackling, cleaner sound
Why cleaning is essential
Polyvinyl chloride - the material from which vinyl records are pressed - becomes highly electrostatically charged through friction. This charge acts like a magnet on dust particles, which settle in the grooves and wreak havoc on the sound: The pick-up system transmits them as an interference signal, the phono preamp amplifies them and the loudspeaker emits them. At the same time, particles that sit between the stylus and groove grind permanently on both - vinyl and diamond wear out faster than most record owners realize.
The Thorens vinyl brush tackles both problems at the same time: The goat hair bristles dip into the groove geometry and mechanically loosen dust particles, while the velvet cushion safely picks up the loosened dirt without spreading it across the record. The antistatic effect of the brush simultaneously reduces the electrostatic charge during cleaning - the record then attracts less dust and lies more quietly under the stylus. The result is immediately audible on the first listen: less crackling, more silence between the notes, a clearer, more direct sound.
The application is very simple and takes less than ten seconds: Place the record on the platter, start the turntable - without lowering the cartridge. Place the brush lightly on the spinning record, allowing the bristles to glide gently into the grooves. After two to three rotations, slowly move the brush from the inside to the outside to move the loosened dust to the edge of the record. Done. We recommend repeating this process after listening - this way the record disappears dust-free back into its sleeve.
Important: Never drag the brush across the grooves of the record, but always in the direction of the grooves to avoid micro-scratches. The ergonomic shape of the Thorens brush supports a natural hand movement. To care for the brush itself, simply tap it out occasionally or gently brush it with a clean, dry cloth - the goat hairs retain their shape permanently and do not lose their softness.
