KUNZEL ERICH & CINCINNATI POPS ORCHESTRA - Ravel: Bolero (Ultra HDCD)
With over 80 albums recorded on the Telarc label, it is clear that Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra are dedicated to the dissemination of classical music. Superbly produced and recorded, the albums are an exception in a world of mediocre orchestras with average conductors playing down arbitrary programs.
Ravel's "Bolero", with which Kunzel opens, was scandalous in its day and is familiar to most people. Less well known today, however, is the middle section of the recording, an arrangement of excerpts from the 1950s musical "Kismet" by Robert Wright and George Forrest. Even though this Broadway show was rather unknown, many of the melodies are familiar to a wide audience. The program concludes with two suites from Bizet's "Carmen". A captivating and exciting recording that comes amazingly close to the live performance.
Ultra-HD 32-bit mastering & PureFlection
This mastering format was developed by FIM and Five/Four Productions. Five/Four Productions is made up of the former Telarc production team who wanted to be able to master the best possible sound quality without compromising on lower quality equipment. The Five/Four Productions team can look back on 16 Grammys and countless other awards.
It is re-digitized with 32-bit word length and sampling frequency adapted to the source material. Where possible, 192 KHz is used, but with some materials, lower sampling rates are advantageous in terms of sound. The Ultra-HD 32-bit productions can be played back on any CD player in outstanding sound quality.
The term PureFlection refers to the new way of producing the glass master for the latest FIM productions. This is not produced in the pressing plant as part of normal production, as is usually the case, but by a specialist on a specially modified machine for cutting Blu-Ray glass masters. Before the CDs are produced, the quality of the glass master is checked and the new booklets contain the test protocol for this check. The result is significantly lower jitter values and also lower error values than with conventional industrial productions and, unlike many modern productions, the resulting sound has an organic feel.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" CD/DVD conditioner for a further improvement in sound quality.
