Frequently Asked Questions · Analogis Wet Cleaning Arm

Which turntables is the wet cleaning arm compatible with?

The Analogis wet cleaning arm can be used with virtually any turntable, regardless of brand, age or drive concept. It is positioned on a stand next to the turntable and requires no tonearm connection of its own. The only requirements are sufficient space alongside the deck and the ability to position the arm at the correct angle to the record surface.

Can I use a home-mixed fluid instead of Superclean?

Technically it is possible — various DIY recipes circulate in the analogue community, typically based on distilled water, isopropyl alcohol and a drop of wetting agent. However, we strongly recommend the Analogis Superclean fluid, as it is specifically formulated for this system: it leaves no residue in the groove, contains no chemical antistatics that could accumulate over time, and is optimally matched to the brush head materials. Home-mixed solutions can in the worst case cause deposits that are difficult to remove afterwards.

Why can't I simply play a wet-played record dry afterwards?

Wet playing loosens dirt and deposits from the groove and redistributes them — ideally the felt runner picks them up. However, a small proportion of these particles remain in the groove in trace amounts and settle differently when dry than on an untreated record. When the record is subsequently played dry, the stylus reads these deposits as surface noise that was previously inaudible during wet play. Anyone wishing to switch between wet and dry playback should thoroughly clean the record first using a record cleaning machine or another professional method.

How much fluid should be applied to the record?

The fluid flow must be carefully adjusted: too little and the cleaning effect is absent; too much and the fluid can run under the record label or into the turntable. The aim is a uniformly narrow, moist strip covered by the brush width, with the stylus running in the centre — the record surface should be moist, not wet. The flow rate can be fine-tuned at the brush head. Once adjusted once or twice, the system typically runs very reliably.

Do original Lenco brush heads fit the Analogis?

Yes. The Analogis wet cleaning arm is dimensionally equivalent to the legendary Lenco wet-play arm. Anyone who still has original Lenco brush tips can use them on the Analogis without an adapter. This is also a practical advantage for users who want to replace their brush head after extended use: spare parts are easier to source, and experienced users can draw on a proven ecosystem.

Does wet playing damage the stylus diamond or the record?

On the contrary — when used correctly, wet playing protects both the diamond and the vinyl. The fluid acts as a lubricant and cooling medium: it reduces the frictional heat generated during stylus contact, thereby considerably reducing mechanical wear on both the stylus tip and the groove wall. According to the manufacturer, the wear reduction is at least 50 per cent. The key conditions are using the right fluid in the right amount — and ensuring the arm is correctly adjusted so that the brush glides evenly across the record surface without downward pressure.

How often does the fluid need to be refilled?

This depends on the flow rate set and the frequency of use. With economical dosing, 250 ml is sufficient for many dozens of record sides. Analogis Superclean is available separately as a refill bottle. We recommend keeping a spare bottle on hand so that a listening session is never interrupted by an empty reservoir.

HiFi Accessories · Record Care

Wet playing has a long tradition — and a loyal following. The reasoning is as simple as it is convincing: moistening the record surface during playback removes dust and contaminants from the groove at the precise moment the stylus passes through it. The result is immediately audible: crackling and surface noise disappear, and the soundstage becomes quieter and more direct. The Analogis Clean wet cleaning arm is the tool of choice for anyone who wants to apply this proven method consistently and without fuss.

The Analogis is the direct successor to the legendary Lenco wet-play arm — one of the most popular wet-play systems in analogue history. The design has been modernised and refined while preserving the proven operating principle: an automatically functioning cleaning arm with an integrated fluid reservoir moistens the record surface just ahead of the stylus, while a co-running felt runner lifts the loosened particles. Original Lenco brush heads fit without an adapter — a quiet nod to the continuity of this concept.

How It Works & Benefits

Wet playing operates on several levels simultaneously. First, the fluid removes dust, dirt and microscopic particles directly from the groove — before the stylus encounters them as interference. Second, the continuous moistening eliminates all static charge from the record surface, which would otherwise attract fresh dust with every play. Third — and this is particularly relevant physically — the fluid reduces friction between diamond and groove wall while simultaneously cooling the contact point. Frictional heat is one of the main causes of tracking distortion and long-term groove and stylus wear. Wet playing measurably reduces both: according to the manufacturer, stylus wear is reduced by at least 50 per cent.

The Analogis Superclean fluid is specifically formulated for wet-play operation. It contains no chemical antistatic agents — a deliberate choice that prevents the formation of stubborn deposits in the groove and on the stylus diamond. Many off-the-shelf cleaning fluids leave a thin residue after evaporation that gradually builds up in the groove. Superclean evaporates without residue, keeping both groove and diamond clean over time.

Important Note on Use

Anyone who adopts wet playing should be aware of one important consequence: a record that has been played wet regularly has acoustically adapted to that condition. Without prior professional wet cleaning (for example using a record cleaning machine), it can no longer be played dry without a noticeable loss of sound quality — residual moisture and loosened particles in the groove settle differently than on an untreated record. Anyone wishing to switch between wet and dry playback should have their records professionally cleaned in between. As a dedicated wet-play system, used consistently and continuously, the Analogis Clean set works reliably and effectively. The system is expressly not suitable for shellac records.
