HiFi accessories - Connection technology
Anyone who assembles high-quality RCA cables themselves or re-equips used cables will be familiar with the problem: most inexpensive plugs are undersized - too narrow cable sockets, unstable sleeves, contact surfaces that discolor within a short time and increase the contact resistance. The Dynavox high-end RCA plug is the opposite approach: a genuine solid brass plug with gold-plated contact surfaces, which also securely accepts thick cable cross-sections of up to 8 mm outer diameter and can be locked securely to the socket thanks to its screw clamp.
The set of 4 combines 2 plugs with a red identification ring (right channel) and 2 plugs with a white identification ring (left channel) - the color convention established in professional connection technology, which reliably prevents confusion when setting up stereo cabling. All four plugs have an identical design: solid brass construction, double screw strain relief, solder connection for the inner conductor - and a conical plug head that can be mechanically locked by turning the sleeve after being plugged into the RCA socket.
Up to 8 mm cable thickness
Generously sized cable holder for thick audiophile cables and high-quality coaxial cables
Screw clamping
Conical plug head locks firmly onto the RCA socket with a twisting motion - no loose contact
Gold-plated brass
Solid brass body with gold-plated contacts for permanently corrosion-free signal transmission
The heart of every RCA plug is its contact system. The entire body of the Dynavox high-end plug is made of solid brass - a material that has proven itself in connection technology for decades: dimensionally stable, highly conductive and ideally suited as a carrier material for surface coatings. The contact surfaces are gold-plated. Gold does not oxidize, does not form an electrically insulating layer and therefore guarantees low contact resistance in the long term - an essential prerequisite for ensuring that the audio signal reaches the device socket from the cable without being distorted.
The screw clamping on the plug head is particularly well thought-out: thanks to the conical design of the plug, the outer sleeve can be twisted after it has been plugged into the RCA socket - the plug is firmly clamped in the socket and is so secure that it does not come loose by itself even when subjected to vibrations. This is particularly relevant if devices are frequently moved, cables are under tension or the sockets are minimally expanded due to repeated plugging.
The double screw strain relief systematically protects the solder joint on the inner conductor from mechanical stress. The cable is fixed in two stages: The outer strain relief absorbs tensile and bending forces on the cable sheath, the inner one secures the stripped conductor area directly in front of the solder joint. This two-stage design is not a matter of course in this price class and considerably extends the service life of the connection.
The ability to accept cables with an outer diameter of up to 8 mm is a unique selling point compared to cheaper connectors, which often only accept cables up to 5 or 6 mm. High-quality audiophile coaxial cables - for example with thick PE insulation, multi-layer shielding or particularly solid conductors - often have precisely these dimensions. If you build your signal paths with first-class cable materials, you should not skimp on the connector: A narrow cable entry forces the cable sheath to be compressed or inserted at an angle, which puts permanent strain on the solder joint and strain relief.
The set is suitable for all classic audio connections in the hi-fi rack: between CD player and preamplifier, DAC and amplifier, phono stage and preamplifier or streamer and integrated amplifier. The restoration of high-quality vintage cables - whose connectors are often mechanically worn but whose cable core is still in perfect condition - is also a typical field of application. Dynavox has accompanied the audiophile scene since the 1990s, is regularly discussed in the trade press and stands for solid craftsmanship at a fair price.
