HiFi accessories - RCA plugs - DIY cable assembly
The RCA plug is one of the most used audio contacts in the world - and at the same time one of the most neglected. Yet every signal transmission begins and ends right here: at the plug. Keith Louis Eichmann, the Australian engineer and sound perfectionist, proved back in the 1990s with his legendary bullet plug that fundamental design decisions have a direct, audible impact on sound quality. The KLEI™ Copper Harmony Plug is the logical evolution of this philosophy - a plug that not only sounds better than the original, but also better than its own predecessor.
Signal and ground contacts are made of a proprietary pure copper alloy (KLEI PureCopper™) with a thick silver coating - not full silver, but a substantial overlay that further improves conductivity and prevents oxidation in the long term. At >101% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), the conductivity of this alloy even exceeds that of pure copper - a value that puts typical gold-plated brass at around 28% IACS. The result is a plug that transmits the audio signal with measurable and audible superiority - in a price segment that is almost unrivaled for the level offered.
>101 % IACS
Conductivity of the copper pins exceeds even pure annealed copper - 320 % better than gold-plated brass
Single-point ground
Eliminates eddy currents, capacitive reactance and micro arcing of the classic ring ground design
Easy mounting
2-screw housing, snap mechanism for secure fit - cable opening 3.5-9.5 mm
The classic RCA plug has a design-related problem: its ring-shaped earth contact generates eddy currents, capacitive reactance and - in the case of plug connections with mechanical tolerance - fine micro arcs. All three effects cloud the audio signal in a way that is barely measurable but clearly perceptible in terms of sound. Keith Louis Eichmann's answer to this is logical: the Copper Harmony replaces the ring contact with a single-point ground pin based on the star grounding principle - a technique that is considered a reference in audiophile electronics construction. The result: a black, quiet background field from which the finest micro-details and spatiality emerge without a veil.
The shape, mass and material thickness of the ground and signal pins have been optimized according to a proprietary mathematical formula to minimize the skin effect - the tendency of high-frequency components to use only the surface of a conductor. The thick silver coating on the pure copper substrate further improves the surface conductivity and permanently protects the plug from oxidation. Anyone who already knows and appreciates the legendary Eichmann bullet plugs will recognize this: The Copper Harmony sounds faster, more transparent and more spacious - a statement that has been consistently confirmed in numerous independent listening reports worldwide.
Installation & compatibility
Installation is pleasingly uncomplicated for an audiophile plug in this class: The housing is secured with two screws, and a removable rubber grommet system covers cable diameters from 3.5 mm to 9.5 mm - making the Copper Harmony suitable for the vast majority of common audiophile cables, from fine signal cables to more powerful cable assemblies. The redesigned snap mechanism of the plug head ensures a defined, secure fit in the RCA socket with easy disconnectability at the same time - without the sluttering of conventional plugs or the undesirable jamming of some bolt connections. The ground pin has a threaded tooth profile that creates an automatic star-point ground connection with metal housings.
A break-in period of at least 125 hours is recommended - as with all high-quality contacts, the material needs some time to develop its optimum conductivity. The 4-pack contains two connectors marked white and two red (yellow KLE logo) for clear left/right channel assignment. Can be used for all types of analog signal cables - and also expressly recommended for digital coaxial cables (S/PDIF) due to the high impedance and reduced jitter transmission.
The Harmony series at a glance
The Copper Harmony is the entry into the KLEI Harmony connector series and offers the best price-performance ratio of the entire line. The next level, the Silver Harmony, replaces the copper ground pin with a silver alloy pin (>106 % IACS) and thus achieves an even quieter sound base. This is followed by the Pure Harmony (both pins in silver alloy) and the Absolute Harmony (highest purity level, maximum IACS values). If you want to build up or upgrade your cable system, the Copper Harmony is the logical and convincing entry point - with a leap in sound that justifies the investment from the very first day of listening.
