Vinyl Care · Storage & Transport

A record cleaning machine leads a curiously contradictory life: you use it regularly — and yet it sits idle most of the time. That is precisely where the trouble starts. The unit gathers dust, the accessories scatter across shelf, drawer and cupboard, and the original carton gives up somewhere around the third house move. The Knosti Woodline Ultrasonic Box puts an end to all that: a purpose-built home for the Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic 2.0 — accessories and cleaning fluids included.

The box is made from PEFC-certified birch and lined with a precisely cut PE foam insert. This is no decorative crate but a serious storage and transport solution: the timber shell keeps dust, light and knocks away from the machine, while the foam lining stops the cleaning unit, label protector, drying rack and bottles from working against one another inside. Manufactured in Burgheim, Upper Bavaria — Made in Germany, just like the machine it was built for.

Fit & Capacity

The box measures 390 × 315 × 270 mm. The Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic 2.0 itself comes in at 360 × 180 × 235 mm — so the surplus lies not in the width, where only a few millimetres of clearance remain, but above all in the depth. Those roughly 13 centimetres of reserve are no accident: they accommodate the Ultraclean concentrate, the BiDest bottle, the mixing bottle, the label protector with its magnetic coupling, the drying rack, sponge brush, microfibre cloth and the power supply. Anyone who knows the Ultrasonic system will recognise the point: it is less a single appliance than a small ecosystem of parts — and it is exactly those parts that go missing in everyday use.

The practical gain is therefore rather greater than the plain description "storage box" suggests. Instead of raiding three drawers before every cleaning session, the entire cleaning station sits in one place — lid up, machine out, get going. For collections that keep growing, and therefore keep needing washing, that noticeably lowers the barrier to actually doing it.

Materials & Construction

Knosti's choice of birch has a solid technical rationale behind it. In furniture and flight-case manufacture, birch plywood is regarded as something of a benchmark material, because for a given thickness it contains more plies than most alternatives — each layer cross-bonded to the next. The result is a panel that achieves high bending and edge strength at modest wall thickness and stays dimensionally stable for years, even as room climate and humidity fluctuate. For a case carrying a 1.5 kg machine plus fluids and moved from time to time, that is exactly the right material.

The PEFC label (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) documents sourcing from sustainably managed forests across the entire supply chain — which, with a natural material, amounts to rather more than a marketing line. In any case, timber being timber: grain, tone and structure vary from one example to the next. Knosti explicitly presents this across the Woodline family as a mark of quality rather than a flaw — every box remains a one-off.

Inside, PE foam handles the fine work. The closed-cell material absorbs no moisture, releases no plasticisers and is chemically neutral towards the polymers used in the cleaning machine. Cut to shape, it holds the components securely enough that nothing shifts when the box is lifted or carried — the classic reason label protectors end up scratched and brush carriers end up bent.

A Practical Note

One point Knosti itself repeats at every opportunity, and one that matters all the more once a storage box is involved: never put the machine away damp. The carriers holding the goat-hair brushes are made from stainless steel sheet; for production reasons, minute machining residues can remain on them, and these will oxidise given prolonged contact with residual moisture. The visible result is surface rust on the brush carriers or a brownish discolouration of the goat hair. Performance is not affected — but it is hardly a pretty sight.

The recommendation is therefore straightforward: rinse the tank after washing, remove the brushes, let everything dry out completely — and only then into the box. Observe that routine and the Woodline Ultrasonic Box delivers precisely what the original carton never could: a permanently dry, dust-free, impact-protected home that is just as solid the tenth time you open it as it was on day one.

Context & Manufacturer

Knosti has been building record cleaning machines for around five decades, which makes the company one of the genuine pioneers of vinyl care. Since the seventies, the hand-cranked Disco-Antistat with its goat-hair brushes has been the first encounter with record washing in countless collectors' homes. With the Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic 2.0, the Burgheim manufacturer brought that principle up to date: a 46 kHz ultrasonic transducer generates cavitation bubbles that work where even the finest natural bristles can no longer reach, after which the brushes carry the loosened dirt out of the groove. The specialist press consistently credits the system with excellent cleaning results.

The Woodline line is Knosti's response to the wish, shared by many collectors, to stop hiding vinyl accessories away in plastic. The Archifix-Box Woodline already established the idea: storage worth putting on display. The Woodline Ultrasonic Box carries that approach across to the company's flagship — closing a gap that had stood open in the range for some time. At an RRP of 129 euros, it pays for itself above all for those who have invested four figures in their cleaning system and would like to treat that investment accordingly.
