SVTL Board - Level - Quadraspire
The SVT model owes its development to an idea of the Japanese Quadraspire distributor. Although they had a bestseller in their program with the well-known Q4 L, they wanted to be able to offer a special version for particularly heavy components and particularly hot-running amplifiers - of course also with sonic advantages over the Q4. Via continuous slots in the SVT levels, it is now possible to dissipate the waste heat from tube amplifiers or Class A power amplifiers. At the same time, the mass of the individual levels is also reduced. Only after long listening experiments did Quadraspire find the right arrangement of the cutouts.
With a trick, the load capacity of the individual levels could be increased to 120 kg: In the SVT, the columns sit within the individual levels in a brass ring that evenly distributes the tensile forces that arise. At the same time, the 32 mm concave columns, with which the model is equipped as standard, do not rest directly on the wood but only have contact with the brass ring above and below the level. This allows a clearly defined coupling of plane to column.
After years of experimentation with different MDF densities and the realization that no significant improvement could be achieved on the rack even by using solid wood, the use of multilayer solid bamboo brought a new sonic breakthrough. Today, for the bamboo version of the SVT, five dried layers of bamboo are cross-glued, resulting in a very stable and at the same time homogeneously dissipative layer.
The 32-mm concave columns of the SVT series are available in black or matte silver lacquer. Both column variants are available in heights of 10 cm, 14 cm, 18 cm, 21.6 cm, 25.6 cm, and 32.6 cm. The dimensions correspond to the real heights available between the levels. The SVT is available in five MDF versions and one solid wood version.
The SVT is available in various real wood veneers and a solid bamboo version. The wood levels are finished with a semi-gloss finish - high-gloss finishes look great, but don't work well sonically with Quadraspire racks.
If you want to set up a larger hi-fi system really well, you might also consider the SV2T. This is basically a doubled SVT and allows, for example, to have a turntable and a top-loading CD player next to each other at the right working height.
Sound tips
1. the SVT comes standard with spikes and these should be used if possible. If you want to save your floor, you can use specially made Quadraspire spike bases for this purpose. The use of optional floor protectors, which are also available, is less good in terms of sound.
2. sonically, solid bamboo is superior to veneered MDF floors.
3. if you want to place a turntable, CD player or streamer on the top level, you should consider the bronze upgrade. This upgrade is even more elaborate for the SVT than for the Q-series racks. This upgrade can also be retrofitted.
