Cassette Accessories · Device Care
A cassette deck is a precision instrument. The tape head, capstan shaft and pinch roller work in concert with tight tolerances — and it is precisely there that tape oxide particles, residue and dust accumulate over time, measurably degrading sound quality. The consequences are well known: dull, lifeless sound, loss of treble, and wow-and-flutter issues. The Analogis Clean 'n' Play addresses this with a well-engineered approach: an MC automatic cleaning cassette that gently yet thoroughly cleans all critical tape-contacting parts in a single Play cycle — without opening the device, without tools, without risk.
What sets the Clean 'n' Play apart from ordinary cleaning cassettes lies inside: instead of a coarse cleaning fleece that merely passes over the tape head and quickly becomes saturated with dirt, an intelligent internal mechanism uses soft cleaning felts to reach not only the tape head but also the pinch roller and capstan shaft — precisely where oxide build-up most directly affects tape speed stability and signal transfer. Even decks with dual-capstan tape transport are fully covered.

Why Regular Cleaning Matters
Every cassette played leaves behind microscopic particles: magnetic pigments shed from the tape's binder layer and settle on the tape head, capstan and pinch roller. This brownish deposit is immediately audible — high frequencies are the first to suffer, the sound becomes increasingly dull and flat. A dirty pinch roller adds speed instability, manifesting as gentle pitch wobble. Oxide build-up on the tape head also widens the effective gap between head and tape, with direct losses in resolution and output level.
The problem builds gradually. Without regular maintenance, the ear adapts to the declining quality — which makes the improvement after a proper cleaning all the more striking. A cleaning interval of approximately every 20 to 30 hours of use is recommended; more frequently with intensive use or older tape stock.
Conventional cleaning cassettes are structurally simple: a fleece strip passes over the tape head — that is all. Pinch roller and capstan remain untreated, and the fleece itself becomes saturated after just a few uses, rendering the entire cassette unusable. The Analogis Clean 'n' Play takes a different approach: the internal mechanism positions the soft cleaning felts so that during Play operation they successively contact all relevant surfaces — tape head, pinch roller and capstan shaft. In dual-capstan decks, both shafts are cleaned.
The key advantage over manual cleaning with cotton swabs is precision and safety: the felts meet the surfaces with exactly the right, gentle pressure — with no risk of scratching delicate heads or allowing aggressive solvents to reach bearings and motors. The included cleaning fluid is formulated for this specific application and evaporates without residue.
Application could not be simpler: dampen the cleaning felts with a few drops of the included fluid, insert the cassette, press Play — cleaning is complete within seconds. The fluid is included and also available as a separate replacement (20 ml, Art. 6243). Once the felts are soiled, they are simply exchanged for the spare felts also included — making the cassette itself a permanent tool, far more economical and sustainable than disposable alternatives.
The Clean 'n' Play is compatible with all standard cassette decks accepting Type I cassettes — in practice, virtually every tape deck produced over the past five decades. For collectors and enthusiasts committed to keeping their decks in peak technical condition, it belongs in every maintenance kit.
