Hi-Fi Accessories · Vinyl · Record Weight
Few records sit truly flat on the platter. Manufacturing residue, a slightly raised label area, a gentle dish — even minute deviations are enough for the stylus to track across a faintly undulating surface rather than one that rests firmly. This is exactly where the Dynavox PST330 comes in: the record weight presses the disc evenly onto the platter, improves its coupling to the platter mass and creates the calm, defined seating on which every precise tracking depends.
The PST330 is a solid aluminium body with a damping carbon contact surface and an additional carbon inlay on top. At around 330 g it sits deliberately in the universally compatible middle ground — heavy enough to be audible, light enough not to overload more sensitive platter bearings. Instead of bare metal, the record meets a material with high internal damping: a small but effective detail.

Carbon & Aluminium

The effect of a record weight is mechanical at heart. By pressing the disc firmly against platter and mat, the PST330 improves the coupling of the record to the platter's mass. The platter can then act as a sink for vibration: micro-vibrations generated in the groove during playback are drained into the platter mass rather than remaining in the vinyl and reflecting back into the stylus. The result is a quieter background, cleaner transients and bass that gains noticeably in definition.
There is also the matter of flatness. With the disc seated securely at its centre, the vertical tracking angle stays more stable across the side — particularly in the inner grooves, where the geometry is most demanding anyway. Warp and dishing around the record centre are reliably held down, which reduces distortion and stabilises the spatial image. With material that is badly warped at the rim a central weight naturally reaches its limits — there it works chiefly at the centre; only an additional outer ring reaches the edge. For the vast majority of common pressings, however, the PST330 delivers exactly the calm, defined seating that makes the difference audible.
The body is made of solid aluminium — a material that combines compact mass, precise machinability and magnetic neutrality. The PST330 therefore packs its weight into a slim, stable form without sitting too tall on the platter. The underside is deliberately broad at around 80 mm in diameter: pressure is distributed evenly across the record's label area rather than bearing down on a single point.
The real detail is the carbon contact surface. Carbon-fibre-reinforced composite combines high stiffness with a high internal loss factor — the polymer matrix converts vibrational energy effectively into heat. As the topmost contact layer, carbon damps precisely where bare metal tends to ring. The additional carbon inlay on top showcases the characteristic woven texture as a visual accent and underlines the stabiliser's high-quality, technically purist appearance.
Positioning & Compatibility
The PST330 is a pure record weight — it works through gravity alone and is simply placed centrally over the spindle. Unlike a screw or collet clamp it requires no threaded spindle and can therefore be used on any turntable with a standard spindle. Within the Dynavox PST series it is the carbon design variant of the 330 g class, positioned between the lighter PST300 (300 g, with an integrated spirit level) and the heavier PST420 (420 g).
The 330 g are no accident but a deliberate choice: heavy enough for a clearly audible effect, yet moderate enough not to overtax belt drives, entry-level decks and spring-suspended sub-chassis designs. One practical note: at 40 mm tall, it is worth a quick look at the clearance beneath a closed dust cover before buying. Behind Dynavox stands a German brand that for more than two decades has pursued the aim of making good hi-fi affordable — and the PST330 is a textbook example: tangible audiophile benefit without an audiophile price tag.
