The inner sleeve is the unsung hero of vinyl care. Between the cover and the record, it determines whether your grooves stay clean, quiet and scratch-free for decades — or whether printed factory paper with its coarse fibre structure carves microscopic hairline scratches into the surface year after year while electrostatically attracting dust. The Suspensus LP Inner Sleeves address exactly this problem with a thoughtful material combination — deluxe paper outside, high-quality polyethylene coating inside — and are offered in several variants so every collection finds its match.

The construction principle is identical across all versions: vinyl never touches rough paper but a smooth, plasticiser-free PE film that glides gently over the groove walls during insertion and removal. This polyethylene layer also acts antistatically — it prevents the electrical charge that inevitably builds up when two materials separate, the same charge that magnetically attracts dust to the record surface. The paper outside provides shape, stability and visual character. What varies is colour (Cream or Black), paper weight (70 / 80 g or 110 g) and edge shape (straight cut or corner cut) — all Suspensus inner sleeves are Made in Germany.

Original factory sleeves are usually plain paper without any inner lining — visually attractive when printed, but acoustically and mechanically far from ideal. Paper has a rough fibre surface that scrapes against the groove walls every time the record goes in or comes out. Over the years this produces hairline scratches, audible as a soft background hiss or crackle. Add to this the static effect: separating vinyl from paper builds up an electrical charge that pulls dust particles straight into the grooves — the infamous "dust pop" right after dropping the needle.

The Suspensus sleeve solves both problems in one step. The inner PE film is microscopically smooth, chemically neutral toward vinyl and contains no plasticisers that might migrate over time and cloud the carrier material — a recurring issue with cheap no-name sleeves. The film also dissipates static: the charge never even gets a chance to build up. The result is a record that comes out cleaner than it went in — and a soundstage with noticeably fewer interfering background noises.

Colour — Cream or Black. Cream is the classic, understated choice: it echoes the natural-paper hue of many first-pressing inner sleeves and slips unobtrusively between cover and vinyl. Black sleeves look more modern and contrasty — the punched centre hole makes the record label stand out visually, which creates a tidy, uniform library look in open-frame shelving or vinyl furniture. A matter of taste with no sonic difference — both versions use identical paper with identical coating.

Paper weight — 70 / 80 g or 110 g. The slimmer versions (70 g in Cream, 80 g in Black) are the more accessible standard variants. They slide effortlessly into the cover alongside the original factory sleeve — a smart choice if you want to keep the printed original sleeve as part of the album. The 110 g versions are noticeably stiffer, more crease-resistant and offer the most premium feel in hand. They are the right call when the Suspensus sleeve is meant to fully replace the original sleeve, or for storing especially heavy pressings (180 g, 200 g, audiophile editions).

Corner cut or straight edge. The corner cut variant features bevelled corners at the open end of the sleeve. This serves two purposes: it makes inserting the sleeve (with vinyl inside) into the cover noticeably easier — the corners don't catch on the cover slot or fold over. Withdrawal is also smoother, since the sleeve glides over the cover edge at a kinder angle. The straight-cut variant offers full rectangular coverage, encloses the record completely and is the classic, formal solution — slightly more prone to corner creasing, but with maximum protection area.

In daily use, the careful detailing of these sleeves shows itself with every single record change. The retrieval lip — the front sheet is cut a few millimetres shorter than the back — exposes a clean grip edge where the record can be lifted out by the rim with the thumb, without the finger ever wandering across the playing surface. It's the technical equivalent of the cotton gloves many collectors use — only built in permanently.

All four edges are precisely cut to the format of a standard 12" LP (309 mm wide, 304 mm deep at the back, 301 mm at the front thanks to the retrieval lip). The sleeve and vinyl together slide cleanly into any standard record jacket. The two centre holes on front and back keep the record label visible — a practical advantage when sorting through the collection, and a safety feature when cueing up: quick check of which side without ever pulling the record out of its sleeve.

Anyone retiring a worn-out collection of original sleeves in favour of uniform material gains an instantly tidy library character on the shelf — and protects every single pressing for the long term.
