She's back. The Knosti Tango CD Archive Box — for decades a quiet classic in German living rooms, studios, and collectors' shelves — is available again after a lengthy hiatus. Anyone maintaining a CD collection knows the three questions every storage solution must answer: where do the discs go, how are they protected, and how quickly are they at hand in daily use? The Tango solves all three in a single, surprisingly slim housing.

The box is manufactured at Knosti's headquarters in Burgheim, Upper Bavaria — Made in Germany in the best sense. The housing is made of high-quality plastic with an acrylic-style finish, impact- and scratch-resistant, with an antistatic surface that reliably keeps dust off your discs. Each unit holds 18 CDs, stored either vertically or horizontally. More than that: the concept is built for growth — integrated connecting clips let you link any number of boxes into a coherent archive system.

The material was chosen with care: Knosti opts for robust, high-quality plastic with an acrylic-style finish rather than solid acrylic — for good reasons. The material is significantly more impact-resistant than traditional acrylic glass, does not yellow under UV exposure, and can be manufactured in consistent quality over many years. The clear variant presents your collection as it should be: a visible, carefully curated selection. The black version adds a restrained accent that fits discreetly into both modern and classic living environments.

The antistatic surface prevents dust from clinging electrostatically to the housing and jewel cases — an often-underestimated detail, since dust is the most common cause of visible clouding and microscopic scratches on CD playback surfaces. The box itself is also designed to be scratch-resistant: inserting and removing discs leaves no unsightly traces even after years of use. CDs glide smoothly and predictably through the guide channels — an aspect that matters especially with limited first pressings, special editions, and early CDs from the 80s and 90s, where any uncontrolled movement becomes a risk.

The Tango shines where rigid archive furniture reaches its limits. It can be placed, stacked, or wall-mounted — and thanks to the integrated clip system, your archive grows organically with your collection. Three boxes side by side? An entire wall of CDs in free configuration? A narrow shelf next to the turntable for the CD counterpart to your favourite vinyl? All possible. The compact dimensions of 27.5 × 13.6 × 13.8 cm (W × D × H) fit on virtually any HiFi rack, desk, and standard shelf depth.

For larger installations, the Tango box pairs with the matching Knosti CD-Tower Tango — a vertical tower solution that also holds 18 CDs and can be combined with the boxes into imaginative, freestanding archive sculptures. For music lovers with mixed collections, the Tango is the logical building block: it picks up the same design language that vinyl collectors know from Knosti's famous cleaning machines — functional, understated, without theatrics.

Founded in 1978 in Burgheim, Upper Bavaria, Knosti Phono-Zubehör-Vertriebs-GmbH is one of the few remaining German manufacturers consistently specialised in HiFi and phono accessories. Knosti gained worldwide recognition with the legendary Disco-Antistat — a mechanical record cleaning machine produced in virtually unchanged form since the late 1970s and still considered the classic entry-level wet-cleaning solution in audiophile households today.

The Tango series represents the company's second pillar: archive systems for recorded media. Knosti follows a philosophy Bavarians might pragmatically call "it just works" — durable plastic solutions in a clear design language, at fair prices, with reliable long-term availability. Resuming Tango production after a lengthy pause is also a signal: demand for sensible CD archive solutions is growing — driven by the current CD revival among collectors and the enduring relevance of the silver disc for high-quality audio productions beyond streaming availability and licensing rotation.
