Hi-fi racks
The foundation for your music system
Every audiophile knows: the sound of a system depends not only on its components but also on how they are set up. Hi-fi racks provide the perfect base for this. They create order, reduce interference and blend harmoniously into any living space.
More than just a hi-fi shelf
Rigid, solid constructions safely carry even heavy components.
Decoupled shelves keep vibrations away from sensitive equipment.
Good ventilation, short paths and tidy cabling.
Solid wood, glass or aluminium – to suit your living space.
What makes a good hi-fi rack?
A high-quality hi-fi rack stands out through stability, well-thought-out construction and good acoustic properties. It is not just a surface to put things on, but the functional heart of your hi-fi system. At Klangheimat you will find racks developed specifically for audiophile use – whether for turntable, CD player or valve amplifier, every device finds its ideal place.
A torsionally rigid frame does not wobble and gives vibrations no chance to build up.
Solid materials damp resonances and give heavy components secure support.
Each shelf rests on its own – vibrations are not passed on from device to device.
An open design ensures air circulation and easy access to connections and controls.
Designs compared
From functional to modular to exclusive design pieces – our selection covers different requirements:
| Design type | Strengths | Look | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid wood rack | High load capacity, natural resonance damping | Warm, homely, timeless | Heavy components, classic systems |
| Modular system | Expandable, flexibly configurable | Clean and technical | Growing systems, changing setups |
| Design rack | Light, open, precisely crafted | Glass, aluminium or natural wood | Modern living spaces, design-minded listeners |
Construction & decoupling
The construction determines how calmly your equipment stands. Look out for these details:
- —Floating shelves: On many audiophile racks, the shelves rest on spikes, cones or dampers instead of being firmly screwed – this decouples each shelf individually.
- —Feet & spikes: Spikes or absorbers at the rack’s feet couple it firmly to the floor or isolate it from springy floorboards.
- —Fillable columns: Some racks have hollow columns that can be filled with sand or granulate – for more mass and calm.
- —Mix of materials: Combinations of wood, metal and glass break up resonances because each material vibrates differently.
- —Height adjustment: Adjustable feet compensate for uneven floors – important for a perfectly level turntable.
Planning the right rack
So that your rack still fits in a few years’ time, a little planning is worthwhile:
- —Number of shelves: Count your devices – and plan one spare shelf for future additions.
- —Width & depth: Measure your largest device including connectors and plugs. Turntables often need more depth than amplifiers.
- —Clear height: Device height plus air for heat dissipation – for the turntable, extra space to open the dust cover.
- —Load capacity: Check the load capacity of each shelf, especially under heavy amplifiers or valve equipment.
- —Location: If possible, do not place the rack right next to bass-heavy speakers, and leave some distance from the wall for cables.
Who are hi-fi racks ideal for?
Hi-fi racks are ideal for music lovers who want to combine sound, order and design. A hi-fi rack protects your equipment, creates clarity and shows off your system visually and functionally – from the living room to the listening studio.
Who want the best possible vibration reduction for every component.
With a sense for clean lines and fine materials.
Who want to set up their components safely, clearly and within easy reach.

Frequently asked questions about hi-fi racks
What is the difference between a hi-fi rack and an ordinary shelf?
A hi-fi rack is designed for the weight, heat and vibration sensitivity of audio components. It offers stable, often decoupled shelves, enough air between devices and good access to cables and connections.
How many shelves do I need?
As many as you have devices – plus one spare. That leaves room for a later phono stage, streamer or power supply.
How deep should a rack for the turntable be?
Measure your turntable including tonearm and dust cover. Many turntables are deeper than amplifiers – also plan enough height for the dust cover to open fully.
Do wood, glass and metal sound different?
Every material has its own resonance characteristics. Solid wood is considered warm and well damped, glass and metal precise and open. Many high-quality racks combine materials to break up resonances in a targeted way.
What does ‘decoupled shelves’ mean?
The shelves rest on spikes, cones or dampers instead of being screwed firmly to the frame. This way vibrations are not transmitted via the rack from one device to the next.
Can the rack stand between the speakers?
That is possible and widespread. Ideally, though, keep some distance from bass-heavy speakers so that the rack picks up less airborne and floor vibration.
Do I need spikes under the rack?
On solid floors, spikes ensure a defined footing. On springy wooden floors, absorbers may be the better choice. On parquet we recommend spike shoes.
Can I expand my rack later?
Modular systems can be extended with additional shelves or modules. With solid wood and design racks, it depends on the model – feel free to ask us before you buy.
