Billions of CDs still fill shelves around the world — and a new generation is discovering how special it is to hold music in your hands again: opening the booklet, inserting the disc, listening to an album from start to finish. No algorithm, no subscription, in uncompressed quality. The Ruark R-CD100 brings exactly this experience into the modern streaming world of the Ruark 100 Series: as an elegant, compact CD transport that integrates seamlessly into your existing system.

The idea is as simple as it is well thought out: the R-CD100 is a pure transport with a high-quality slot-loading mechanism, working via a custom-developed CD servo-to-USB interface. Connected via USB-C to a Ruark 100 Series product such as the R410 or R610, the CD automatically appears as an additional source — no setup, no separate power supply, no extra amplifier input. Conversion is handled by the high-quality D/A converters already built into the music system.

The R-CD100 follows a principle that has been valued in high-end audio for decades: separating transport and converter. The transport concentrates solely on reading the disc’s data precisely, while conversion into an analogue music signal takes place where it performs best sonically — in the matched D/A converters of the Ruark system. The result is a lean, direct signal path without additional conversion stages, cable runs or amplifier inputs.

The CD delivers uncompressed audio data at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz according to the Red Book standard, exactly as mastered in the studio. In addition to pressed audio CDs (CD-DA), the R-CD100 also plays home-burned CD-R and CD-RW discs. Power is supplied directly via the USB connection at a maximum of 5 W — no separate power supply is required, and cabling is kept to a minimum.

With a footprint of just 175 × 167 mm and a height of 45 mm, the R-CD100 fits alongside any music system. Precision-made top and bottom plates — the top in aluminium — enclose a handcrafted cabinet that echoes the design language of the 100 Series, both visually and to the touch. Yet the cabinet is more than styling: it decouples the mechanism from external vibrations, laying the foundation for calm, clean disc reading.

The R-CD100 is available in Fused Walnut and Ebony — the latter matching the R410 Anniversary special edition. Controls on the unit are deliberately kept to the essentials: an eject button and a power LED. Playback is conveniently controlled via your connected Ruark system, just like any other source.

Ruark developed the R-CD100 specifically as an extension for 100 Series products such as the R410 or R610 music systems. These systems are designed for modern streaming — the R-CD100 adds a physical source without changing the operation or look of the overall system. Please note: as the transport has no converters or analogue outputs of its own, it is intended exclusively for use with compatible Ruark 100 Series products.

Behind the R-CD100 is Ruark Audio from southern England, founded in 1985 by brothers Alan and Brian O’Rourke and still family-run today. For decades the brand has combined furniture-grade craftsmanship with serious sound — from the iconic R1 radio to the R7 radiogram. The R-CD100 continues this tradition: for everyone who loves their CD collection and wants to bring it back to life in a contemporary, homely system.
