Record players
The return of analogue listening
Record players have been enjoying a real comeback for years – and with good reason. They stand for a slower, more mindful music experience and for a sound many listeners no longer want to be without. At Klangheimat you will find a fine selection from entry-level models to high-end turntables.
Music you can touch
Vinyl captivates with dynamics, spaciousness and a natural sound character.
Put on a record, lower the tonearm, listen – music becomes an experience again.
From compact plug-and-play models to massive high-mass turntables.
Many models grow with you: cartridge, mat and accessories can be upgraded.
Why record players are in demand again today
Vinyl records are not just cult objects – they captivate with warmth, depth and dynamics. A record player is your ticket into this world of sound. For many listeners, analogue playback creates a direct connection to the music: putting on the record, gently lowering the tonearm, the soft crackle before the first bar – all this makes the music experience tangible and special.
A record side is usually heard in one go – just as the artists intended.
Covers, inner sleeves and booklets turn the collection into a sensory experience.
Many listeners love the natural, spacious character of the record.
Good turntables and records last for decades with proper care.
Variety for every standard
Whether a compact turntable with built-in phono stage or a massive deck with external power supply – you will find the right model with us. The most important difference lies in the drive:
| Drive | Principle | Strengths | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belt drive | A belt connects motor and platter | Motor vibrations are well decoupled, calm running | Sound-focused listeners, entry level to high-end |
| Direct drive | The motor drives the platter directly | Fast start-up, very stable speed, low maintenance | DJs, frequent listeners, precision-minded listeners |
| Idler drive | An idler wheel transfers power from the motor to the platter | Powerful, dynamic drive with character | Lovers of classic turntables |
On top of that come manual, semi- or fully automatic operation, built-in phono stages, USB or Bluetooth outputs as well as classic and modern designs – our record players cover every sonic and aesthetic preference.
Technology with an ear for sound
A high-quality record player convinces not only with its build quality but above all with its inner values:
Guides the cartridge through the groove with low friction and precision – the basis for clean tracking.
A precise platter bearing ensures calm running without rumble.
A torsionally rigid, low-resonance chassis keeps interference away from tracking.
Feet, mats and material combinations shield the deck against vibration.
External power supplies and precise motor controls ensure exact speed.
Many models can be developed individually with cartridge and accessories.
Finding the right turntable
These questions help you narrow down the choice quickly:
- —Connection: Does your amplifier have a phono input? If not, choose a model with built-in phono stage or a separate phono stage.
- —Operation: Manual for purists, semi- or fully automatic for anyone who prefers not to lift the tonearm themselves.
- —Cartridge: Factory-fitted or freely selectable? A pre-mounted cartridge makes getting started particularly easy.
- —Upgradability: Can the cartridge, platter mat or power supply be upgraded later?
- —Spread your budget wisely: A balanced combination of turntable, cartridge and phono stage achieves more than a single expensive component.
Setting up & care
So that your turntable reaches its full potential and gives you pleasure for a long time:
- —Set up level: Check with a spirit level and adjust via adjustable feet.
- —Place it low in vibration: A sturdy piece of furniture, a hi-fi base or a wall shelf keeps footfall away.
- —Distance from speakers: Do not place the turntable right next to bass-heavy speakers.
- —Keep stylus and records clean: Clean regularly with a stylus brush and record brush – this spares both.
- —Close the dust cover: Protects deck and cartridge from dust when the turntable is not in use.

Frequently asked questions about record players
Belt or direct drive – which is better?
Both principles can sound excellent. Belt drives decouple the motor well from the platter and are popular with sound-focused listeners. Direct drives start up very quickly, hold speed extremely stable and need little maintenance – ideal for DJs and frequent listeners.
Do I need a phono stage?
Yes, unless your amplifier has a phono input or your turntable has a built-in phono stage. It amplifies the very weak cartridge signal and equalises it according to the RIAA curve.
Are turntables with Bluetooth or USB worthwhile?
For a convenient start or for digitising records, certainly. Anyone who wants to use the full analogue sound potential usually relies on a wired connection to the system.
What should I look for in an entry-level model?
A sturdy tonearm with adjustable tracking force, a good-quality pre-mounted cartridge and the option to upgrade later. Solid build quality matters more than lots of extra features.
Does a fully automatic turntable harm my records?
No. Well-adjusted automatic turntables lower the tonearm gently and lift it at the end – this can even be gentler than an unsteady lowering by hand.
How often do I need to change the stylus?
That depends on the stylus profile and care. Manufacturers often quote several hundred to over a thousand playing hours. Sibilance or distortion is a sign that a change is due.
Where is the best place for my turntable?
On a stable, level and low-vibration surface – not right next to bass-heavy speakers. On springy wooden floors, a hi-fi base or a wall shelf helps.
Can I upgrade my turntable later?
With many models, yes: a better cartridge, a different platter mat, an external power supply or a higher-quality phono stage often lift the sound noticeably. We are happy to advise you.
