Rhino Records

Rhino Records

The Rhino label was founded in 1978 by Richard Foos. It was the result of a record store of the same name that opened in Los Angeles in 1973. It took another five years for the label to establish itself under the management of Harold Bronson. At this time, Rhino only released reissues of punk rock records.
The label made a name for itself in the early eighties by remastering the original recordings and designing creative packaging.

Rhino was one of the first to react to the impending switch from LP to CD and was thus able to expand and maintain its market position. In 1986, the label entered into a distribution agreement with Capitol Records and a year later secured the rights to their jazz recordings in the USA from Capitol subsidiary Emi. Among the artists and musicians who had their works re-released at this time were Eric Burdon, The Beach Boys, Grateful Dead, The Doors and WAR. The label also owns the rights to the original recordings of the US band "The Monkeys".
Today, the Warner Music Group holds the majority of the rights to Rhino Records and had its greatest success with Led Zeppelin's best-of album "Mothership".
In addition to CDs and DVDs, Rhino Records also offers 180 gram vinyl pressings of well-known musicians such as Black Sabbath, Grateful Dead, Prince, Depeche Mode and ZZ-Top. The genres offered by Rhino include rock & pop, R&B/soul, jazz, country, soundtracks, rap and hip-hop, blues and much more.
Rhino's Handmade series is particularly popular with fans and critics.

Extremely rare and audiophile recordings find their way back into the public domain through this series. "The legacy continues..."
