From Scratch - Another Quiet Night
With Another Quiet Night, the Berlin-based Meisterschallplatten continue their audiophile concept and set new standards in high-resolution sound documentation. With this album, the quartet From Scratch builds on the acclaimed recordings of the "Quiet Night" sessions from 2024 - but goes a decisive step further: not only are these previously unreleased tracks from the same creative phase, they are also a unique sound experiment.
All four tracks were recorded twice - in the same recording room, at the same time, with the same musicians. But the setting was not identical: two different miking techniques, two different room arrangements, two completely different sonic results. This idea takes the project to a fascinating meta-level: it's not just about music, but about perception, spatial awareness and acoustic reality. The A-side presents the tracks in full stage stereo, with open, wide stage imaging - ideal for immersing yourself in every detail of the ensemble playing. The B-side, on the other hand, uses the rarely used One Point Blumlein technique, which creates a particularly natural, three-dimensional spatial representation with just one pair of microphones. Comparing the two sides is more than just a technical gimmick - it is an experience for the ear and the audiophile mind.
Musically, Another Quiet Night moves between contemplative jazz, minimalist chamber music and intuitive improvisation. The four musicians of From Scratch act with an almost telepathic sensitivity for each other.
