News from Speakers Corner!

Nov 19, 2024·Last update: Dec 8, 2024

Speakers Corner Records has been releasing all-analog LP reissues since 1993, making it the world's longest-running audiophile, owner-operated record label. Sieveking Sound currently has 123 different Speakers Corner LPs in stock. We usually have everything in stock. But fans of high-quality remasters have had to wait a long time for new titles in the catalog. Starting with Donny Hathaway's second album "Donny Hathaway", four of them will now be released within the next four months!

Donny Hathaway - Donny Hathaway

Donny Hathaway - Donny Hathaway

Donny Hathaway's work spans just three years and five albums. The composer, arranger and singer, who suffered from depression, was a master of the second row. He produced for Curtis Mayfield's Curtom label, wrote soundtracks, worked with King Curtis, Leroy Hutson and even Willie Nelson, landed a few medium hits, sounded like the intersection of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder - damn good. None of this made him happy; in January 1979, the unstable artist was found dead outside his hotel.

Joao Gilberto - Amoroso

Joao Gilberto - Amoroso

OUT FROM THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER 2024

When this album landed on turntables in 1977, João Gilberto, the doyen and godfather of bossa nova, had long enjoyed legendary merits for his life's work, which was far from complete. His straightforward, sometimes dry and raspy vocals resonate unmistakably in the mezzo piano and shape his very personal style of Latin jazz with intercontinental reach. With Wave, Triste, Caminhos Cruzados and Zingaro, he combines four brilliant tracks by his congenial compatriot Antônio Carlos Jobim on this LP.

The Butterfield Blues Band - The Resurrection Of Pigboy Crabshaw

The Butterfield Blues Band - The Resurrection Of Pigboy Crabshaw

DELIVERY FROM JANUARY 2025

Malicious tongues predicted the end of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band when guitar virtuoso Mike Bloomfield left the band to form Electric Flag. In fact, however, the ensemble expanded, including the addition of a horn section, which provided a jazzier touch, while the Chicago blues remained the basis. Elvin Bishop became the new lead guitarist and gave the album its title with his nickname. Butterfield himself played harmonica and sang, while his band grew into one of the most cohesive formations of its time.

Ornette Coleman - Ornette on Tenor

Ornette Coleman - Ornette on Tenor

OUT IN FEBRUARY 2025

It would be an understatement to say that Ornette Coleman's time with Atlantic changed the jazz world forever. On Ornette On Tenor, his sixth LP for the label (not counting outtakes compilations), he switches to tenor saxophone, but the great addition to this record is the participation of Jimmy Garrison on double bass. Compared to the previous record Ornette! (with Scott LaFaro on bass), these recordings sound earthier, darker. In Coleman's sound cosmos, Garrison fits seamlessly into the band's sound and as an accompanist he is a great match for Coleman's tenor saxophone. He seems to have a lot of fun with the instrument, which he used to play in rhythm and blues combos. His lines often breathe exactly this atmosphere, sometimes you think you are hearing a "free" Coleman Hawkins.
