Acoustic Solid Balance - Digital High End Tonearm Balance - Acoustic Solid

The tracking force is one of the most influential control variables in the entire analog signal path - and at the same time one of the most frequently underestimated. If you rely on the mechanical scale on the tonearm, you are trusting a system that never reflects the actual weight at the tip of the stylus due to bearing friction, ageing and manufacturing tolerances. The Acoustic Solid Balance scale closes this gap: as a high-resolution electronic tonearm scale, it measures the actual contact weight directly at the measuring point - reproducible, objective, accurate to the milligram.

Acoustic Solid from Zollern in Baden-Württemberg is one of the most respected German turntable manufacturers. Known for solidly milled turntables in professional quality, Acoustic Solid develops its range of accessories with the same claim: no compromise on the tool that ultimately determines the correct setup. The Balance scale is not a generic OEM product - it is a dedicated precision instrument for the serious vinyl listener.

Every cartridge manufacturer specifies a narrow tolerance window for the optimum tracking force - often just a few tenths of a gram. Within this window, the system works as it was designed: The needle guides the groove confidently, the cantilever rubber is neither over- nor under-tensioned, and the tracking distortions remain minimal. If the force is even 0.2 g off, the sound image changes measurably: the bass loses contour, transients smear, the stage shrinks.

The long-term consequences of an incorrect setting are even more serious. Too much tracking force puts a strain on the stylus rubber and groove flanks - an expensive system can suffer irreversible damage within a few hundred hours of operation. Too little contact force causes the needle to jump out of the groove in complex passages, causing short-term but destructive overload peaks. A precise balance is therefore not a luxury - it is both an insurance policy and a sound tool.

The permissible tolerances are particularly tight for high-quality systems with Line Contact, Shibata or other high-performance grindings. If you rely on tonearm scaling here, you risk never experiencing the full sound potential - and shortening the service life of the stylus and record at the same time.

The flat housing of the Balance scale is no coincidence: it enables measurement directly on the turntable - at exactly the same height at which the needle will later scan the groove. This is crucial because turntables with adjustable VTA or inclined tonearms change the effective tracking pressure depending on the height of the measuring point. A measurement on a higher surface would give a slightly distorted result. With the Balance scale, the geometry is correct.

The clear display shows the measured value directly and without interpretation - no reading off a scale, no guessing between lines. The workflow is very simple: place the balance on the turntable, lower the tonearm onto the measuring surface, take the reading, readjust the counterweight on the tonearm and measure again. It takes just a few minutes to get the setup right - and it can be reproducibly verified every time the cartridge is changed or after a long break in operation.

The robust housing ensures a stable, low-vibration measuring base and fits visually into any high-quality hi-fi environment. Compact enough to be kept close to the turntable - solid enough to measure reliably over the long term.
