In the current version II, both fusible conductors and contact caps are made entirely of copper for the first time - a consistent further development compared to the previous generation, which immediately attracted attention in specialist circles. Sound & mode of operation
The device fuse is located directly in the power supply of each hi-fi component and therefore influences the quality of the entire music signal. Standard industrial fuses made of glass with nickel-plated caps are designed for electrical protection - not for audiophile requirements. The decisive difference of the AHP miniature fuse lies in the fusible conductor made of 100% pure copper: The material favors more beautiful sound colors and provides a significantly lower and more stable contact resistance compared to iron or nickel alloys.
The resonance-optimized ceramic tube with quenching agent filling ensures a constant temperature of the fusible conductor. This thermally "calms" the conductor filament - it works at a stable operating point and delivers consistently constant electrical values. The result in the sound image: less noise in the signal, a more relaxed, "deburred" sound image that comes across confidently and effortlessly even at higher volumes. Customers report increased spatiality, more musical information and a newfound warmth - without any loss of resolution or dynamics.
Devices with a high current flow benefit particularly clearly: integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers typically show the greatest sound gain. But source devices such as CD players, DACs and streamers also react noticeably to the fuse replacement. Polished or gold-plated - which version?
The AHP fine fuse II is available in two versions, which differ slightly in terms of sound and practicality - and are therefore aimed at two different user profiles. The highly polished pure copper caps tend to deliver a more earthy, warmer sound with a little more body and bass substance - the first choice for active audiophiles who regularly maintain their system. As bare copper oxidizes, the contact caps should be cleaned of any tarnish about once a year. Applying a high-quality contact agent - such as ProGold - significantly extends this maintenance interval.
The gold-plated contact caps offer a slightly more treble-emphasized sound with a little more airiness and transparency in the treble range. Thanks to the gold coating applied directly to the copper, they are corrosion-resistant and permanently maintenance-free - ideal for hard-to-reach device positions or for anyone who wants to replace the fuse once and then enjoy music at a higher level in the long term.
Important note on installation
Audiophile miniature fuses are manufactured with very tight tolerances - this is due to the design and protects the devices more precisely than standard fuses. Devices with high inrush currents (e.g. certain amplifiers from Naim or Accuphase) can cause an audiophile fuse to blow the first time it is switched on. Before replacing the fuse, please contact the manufacturer or distributor of your device and ask for the recommended rated current value. All AHP miniature fuses are delivered 100% function-tested. Installation is at the customer's own risk - complaints after installation are excluded.
