Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab

High-end remastering from MFSL in the U.S.A.

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, or MFSL for short, has secured a place for itself as a company at the zenith of audiophile quality pressings. In 1977, the company attracted attention with premium products that were unique in the music landscape of the time.
While the record companies relied on quality and price reductions, MFSL took a completely different path. Quality at reasonable but higher prices than the vinyl market could offer at the end of the 70s. The reward for this entrepreneurial risk

The reward for this entrepreneurial risk is a huge fan base and the status of a critics' favorite. Many audiophile record distributors followed suit. With the invention of half-speed LP mastering by engineer Stan Riker, the company achieved its breakthrough. However, many other record companies still claim to have developed the process themselves. The half-speed mastering method allows a higher frequency level transfer from the master tapes to vinyl. The first MFSL titles were pressed in Japan by JVC. A connection that continued in the production of SACDs and cassette mastering.
In the mid-1980s, the company entered into the distribution of compact disks. The aluminum CD produced by MFSL adopted the concept of recording from master to CD.

In the 90s, MFSL established its own LP pressing operation in America. In 1999, the original MFSL went bankrupt and was bought by Music Direct. Today, in addition to analog pressings on LP, there is also a wide range of classic recordings and reissues with Super Audio Cds, GAIN 2 Ultra Analog Limited Edition Vinyl, Ultradisc II Gold and Ultradisc CD-Rs.
MFSL distributes music genres from pop & rock to jazz & blues to country & bluegrass as well as classical.

Silver Label
Since 2011, the well-known remastering label MFSL has been releasing a new series of records called "Silver Label"

These are remastered and cut by Tim de Paravicini on the newly constructed mastering chain and pressed on HQ vinyl at RTI in Los Angeles. The packaging continues the same high standards of a lined rice paper inner sleeve, the protective intermediate sleeve and the consecutive serial number on the outer cover as with the well-known Original Master Recodings series.

MFSL is currently working on a series of experimental releases and is also willing to make do with a copy of the master tape in the Silver Series should the original tape no longer be available or provided.
As all releases are strictly limited edition LPs, they too may soon become coveted collector's items.
