Antiskating - Unit - JMW 12 - Tonearm - VPI

Precise sound optimization with innovative anti-skating technology from VPI

Anti-skating force is one of the most complex and frequently misunderstood physical influences acting on the tonearm of a turntable. It is caused by the friction between the stylus and the record surface - especially when the headshell is at an offset angle - and consistently pulls the tonearm towards the center of the record. If the stylus is placed on a groove-free test record, for example, this phenomenon can be observed immediately as the tonearm automatically moves inwards.

Many manufacturers have tried to compensate for this effect with mechanical devices. However, this proves to be almost impossible, as the skating force changes continuously depending on the music dynamics and rotation speed.

VPI has developed a pioneering alternative based on extensive listening comparisons and intensive tests: instead of relying on classic mechanical anti-skating systems, the JMW Memorial tonearm uses a specially wound wire. This acts like a precisely tuned spring that gently guides the tonearm back - without compromising the tonal integrity. The result is an open, balanced and unadulterated sound that meets audiophile demands at the highest level.

Owners of older VPI models with a silver-colored connection box should take note: To enjoy the new anti-skating upgrade, it is necessary to replace it with a black connection box.

Discover the sonic benefits of a sophisticated and minimally invasive solution - for a listening experience that will delight music lovers.
