AT-VM95C MM cartridge - Audio Technica
VM95 Series - Stereo conical pickup
The AT-VM95C is Audio-Technica's new entry-level conical stylus cartridge, replacing the legendary AT90 series cartridges (for example, AT91, AT91R, and CN5625AL).
The AT-VM95C is an affordable conical needle cartridge that offers the option to replace the stylus with one of the four other higher-end LP styli (elliptical, elliptical/nude, microlinear, and Shibata) in this series.
VM95 Series - Pickup Compatibility Chart
Even the best diamond needle wears out after some time - conical needles after about 500 hours, elliptical after 300 hours, Microlinear needles after 1000 hours and Shibata needles after about 800 hours.
For this reason, Audio Technica has designed its VM95 series dual-moving-magnet cartridges so that the pickup needles can be interchanged and the cartridge itself can be used almost indefinitely. So if the pickup needle wears out, you don't need to buy a new pickup, just the right replacement needle - or you can upgrade your system with another, higher-quality pickup needle.
All six VM95 cartridge models have the same electromagnetic drive unit (housing). Therefore, the six styli in this series are also 100% compatible.
Conical, mounted needle
The advantage of conical needles (even in "slim", less expensive systems) is that the rounded surface scans the groove of vinyl records very precisely.
Mounting without nuts
VM95 series cartridges have two M2.6 threaded inserts that allow installation on the tonearm or (replaceable) headshell without nuts. Each cartridge comes with four M2.6 screws (2 x 8 mm and 2 x 11 mm) and two plastic washers.
