Record care · Label protection
A thorough wet cleaning restores dusty grooves to their former brilliance and quietness — but it has one delicate weak point: the paper label in the centre of the record. A single splash of cleaning fluid is enough to cause the ink to run, the paper to warp or the edges to come away. Particularly with first pressings, signed copies or rare collector’s items, a damaged label represents a real loss of value. The Dynavox Labelprotector LP120 fills this gap and makes cleaning your vinyl treasures a safe, routine task.
Two transparent acrylic half-shells enclose the label on both sides and are screwed together through the centre hole. Internal O-rings fit tightly against the surface of the record, whilst additional screw seals secure the screw connection in the centre hole — ensuring the label stays dry, whether you wipe the record with a damp cloth or wash it thoroughly. The clear acrylic keeps the label visible at all times: you can see straight away which record you’re currently working on and whether everything is positioned correctly.
Double sealing
O-rings on the record surface plus screw seals in the centre hole
Damp & wet
Protects the label when wiping the record as well as during a full wash
Spare parts included
2 spare O-rings and 2 spare screw seals, plus a cleaning cloth
The principle is as simple as it is effective: the record is placed between the two half-shells, the screw is inserted through the centre hole and tightened by hand. With every turn, the O-rings press evenly against both sides of the record, forming a sealed barrier around the label. Each half-shell measures approx. 120 mm in diameter and thus generously covers the label, whilst the grooved surface of the record remains completely exposed for cleaning.
At just approx. 10 mm in height per shell, the LP120 has a pleasantly slim profile. This makes for a handy, well-balanced unit that can be gripped securely by the protector — your fingers stay away from the grooved surface, and the record can be easily turned, rinsed and set aside to dry.
Whether you wipe your records with a cleaning solution and a velvet brush, or wash them thoroughly under running water or in a cleaning bath: the Labelprotector allows you to work confidently right up to the edge of the label, without having to circle cautiously around the centre of the record. In particular, the run-out groove and the area near the label – which are often neglected during manual cleaning – can be treated with the same thoroughness as the rest of the surface.
After cleaning, simply allow the record to drain with the protector still attached, dry the grooved surface with a suitable microfibre cloth, and only then loosen the screw. This ensures that no residual liquid gets onto the label when you open it.
Seals are wear parts — which makes it all the more thoughtful that Dynavox includes two spare O-rings and two spare screw seals with the LP120. Check the seals occasionally for cracks or deformation and replace them if necessary to ensure that protection remains reliable in the long term. The supplied cleaning cloth keeps the acrylic shells clear and streak-free.
Our care tip: It is best to clean the acrylic half-shells using only clean water or a mild solution and the cloth provided. Cleaners containing alcohol or solvents should not be applied directly to the acrylic, as they may cause the surface to become cloudy over time or lead to fine hairline cracks.
