Vinyl service - cleaning & reactivation
Some records sound noticeably better after a classic wet cleaning - but not like new. The reason: conventional cleaning machines remove dirt and deposits, but cannot completely dissolve the binding substances embedded deep in the groove structure. Greases, oils, nicotine residues, pressing residues from the manufacturing process and statically charged microparticles chemically adhere to the groove flanks - and remain behind even after multiple machine washes. Record Restore dissolves precisely these substances. It is not a cleaning fluid in the conventional sense, but an archival reactivation system that restores the vinyl surface to a level that machine methods cannot achieve.
Record Restore is new on the European market - we are one of the first providers to offer this service professionally in this country. The system was developed by collectors, archivists and audio experts who demand measurable and reproducible results. The results speak for themselves: in controlled tests, an increase in the signal-to-noise ratio of up to 11 dB was measured - which corresponds to a sound improvement of around 75% according to human hearing perception.
+11 dB signal-to-noise ratio
Empirically measured - corresponds to ~75 % sound improvement according to logarithmic hearing perception
Permanently antistatic
Treated records can no longer become electrostatically charged - new pressings also benefit permanently
100 % residue-free
The emulsion is completely removed as a skin film - no chemical residue, no recoating of the groove
How Record Restore works - and why it's different
The principle of action is fundamentally different from anything that wet cleaning machines, ultrasound or brushes can achieve. Record Restore is a surfactant-based, alcohol-free emulsion that is applied to the record surface and has a targeted effect there: The special formulation dissolves binding substances such as grease, oils and nicotine residues directly in the groove - emulsification removes these substances from the groove structure. At the same time, statically charged microparticles are neutralized so that they no longer adhere electrostatically to the groove flanks, but are incorporated into the resulting skin film.
When the dried film is peeled off, 100% of the dissolved contaminants are removed without leaving any residue - no fluid, no dirt, no solvent remains on the vinyl surface. The needle then sits deeper and more reactively in the groove, which is directly reflected in improved dynamics, sharper transients and extended stage depth. Even records that have been washed several times with professional machines show a further, clearly audible improvement after treatment with Record Restore.
Particularly important: the vinyl surface is hardly touched mechanically during the entire process. There are no brushes, no abrasion, no high-frequency sonication - this makes Record Restore the gentlest cleaning process available for vinyl today. Even sensitive early pressings, rarities and collector's items can be treated without hesitation.
The antistatic effect - permanent, not temporary
Static charge is the main cause of crackling, cracking and dust attraction on records - and is not permanently eliminated by most cleaning methods. When a particle is statically charged, it cannot be lifted from the record surface - it simply moves around in the groove. Each periodic discharge by the pickup generates audible interference pulses in the signal.
Record Restore permanently neutralizes these charges: after treatment, a layer of positive ions is formed that prevents new negative charges from being generated. This means that once a record has been treated, it can no longer become electrostatically charged - not even through friction when placing the stylus, when removing it from the sleeve or through dry room air. This effect lasts over repeated playback.
Particularly noteworthy: Even brand-new pressings have been proven to carry a considerable electrostatic charge from the pressing process - visible in the fact that they immediately attract dust particles from the air. Record Restore permanently eliminates this charge from the very first use. The following video impressively demonstrates this effect on a new, untouched record:
Record Restore does not rely on subjective listening experiences - the results are documented by measurements. Independent tests with professional audio analysis software revealed the following improvements compared to untreated records:
| Increase signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) |
up to +11 dB (~75 % improvement) |
| Reduction of the peak noise level |
up to -8 dB (>50 % improvement) |
| Surface noise & crackle |
Significantly reduced, often completely eliminated |
| Channel separation & stage stability |
Measurably improved |
| Dynamic range |
Expanded by exposing original transients |
| Electrostatic charge |
Permanently eliminated - even over repeated playbacks |
When Record Restore is the right choice
Record Restore is the method of choice when classic wet cleaning alone is not enough - or when the best possible sound result is the goal. Typical applications:
Long-term stored collections - records from basements, attics or estates where grease, oil and mold spores have penetrated deep into the grooves.
Boards with permanent crackling - despite previous wet cleaning. Often it is statically bound dirt that no machine can remove.
Valuable first pressings and rarities - where the gentlest available process is required and any further impairment must be ruled out.
New pressings with pressing residues or heavy charging - brand-new records can be permanently antistatic and residue-free immediately after treatment.
Records that have already been washed but are not yet convincing - Record Restore removes what remains after machine cleaning.
