KARAJAN VON HERBERT & WIENER PHILHARMONIKER - Verdi: Aida (2xHSACD)
This extraordinary studio recording was made in September 1959 at the Sofiensaal in Vienna, with Herbert von Karajan conducting the Vienna Philharmonic and the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde under the direction of Reinhold Schmidt. This legendary Decca production, featuring renowned soloists such as Renata Tebaldi and Carlo Bergonzi, captivates with its warm, almost velvety orchestral sound, impressive dynamic nuance, and extraordinary emotional expressiveness. At the same time, the interpretation succeeds in toning down the grand, operatic gesture in favor of remarkable musical depth and an intimacy almost reminiscent of chamber music.
For this special release in the “Esoteric Classical Masterpiece Collection,” the original master tapes were meticulously remastered at the Esoteric Mastering Center. Producer Jo Yoshida, Executive Producer Motoaki Ohmachi—President and co-founder of the Esoteric Company—and mastering specialist Masaya Tohno were responsible for the elaborate remastering process. The result lends this outstanding recording of Verdi’s famous opera a new sonic presence and makes this edition a particularly coveted release for discerning classical music lovers and collectors.
