SOLTI GEORG & VIENNA PHILHARMONIC - Wagner: Götterdämmerung (4er Box/HSACD)
The Hungarian-British conductor Sir Georg Solti received significant honors from the British royal family during his time in London. In 1968, he was appointed a “Commander of the Order of the British Empire.” This was followed in 1971 by his appointment as a “Knight Commander,” which entitled him to use the title “Sir.”
As of February 2023, Solti was considered the artist with the most Grammy Awards, regardless of musical genre. In total, he received 31 Grammys, including a “Lifetime Achievement Award” and a “Trustees Award.” In addition, he was nominated 74 times for the prestigious music award.
Thanks to his extensive experience as an opera conductor, he succeeded in making the first complete studio recording of Richard Wagner’s opera cycle *Der Ring des Nibelungen* with the Vienna Philharmonic between 1958 and 1965. This recording is still considered a landmark in the history of recorded music. To mark the 110th anniversary of his birth and the 25th anniversary of his death, the legendary recording was reissued in its entirety in 2022 and 2023.
