STOCKHOLM GUITAR QUARTET - A Unique Classical Guitar C (HMSACD)
Peder Riis founded the Stockholm Guitar Quartet, and he remains its artistic director to this day. Since the 1980s, he has also served as a professor of classical guitar at Lund University.
Twenty-eight years ago, Jan-Eric Persson took notice of the Stockholm Guitar Quartet. Their first recording together quickly became a huge success and went on to become the bestseller for the OPUS 3 label, which had been in existence for only two years at the time. Two additional albums, released in 1980 and 1991, played a significant role in further increasing the visibility and reputation of both the ensemble and the label.
The collection *A Unique Classical Guitar Collection* features not only recordings by the quartet but also selected works from the OPUS 3 catalog. These include recordings by the Stockholm Guitar Trio, the guitar duo Duodecima, and pieces from Peder Riis’s solo album.
In his review of the SACD edition in STEREO magazine, Matthias Böde particularly highlights the outstanding sound quality. He praises the natural and spatially convincing recording of the Swedish guitar ensembles, which present well-known and lesser-known symphonic works from various musical eras—from the Baroque to the modern—in arrangements for guitar. The recording technique creates an authentic sense of space: the instruments sound as if they were playing in their natural acoustic environment, rather than coming directly from the speakers.
