WAGNER RICHARD - Lohengrin (5LP/180g)
special edition limited to 999 pieces - individually numbered
This recording was made immediately following two concerts in Cologne. However, the origins of this collaboration go back years to concerts in Spain as well as a new production at the Vienna State Opera. Both projects allowed all participants to delve deeply into the collective thoughts and experiences that informed the construction of Lohengrin Cathedral. On July 2, 1850, Wagner wrote in a letter to Liszt: "give the opera as it is, delete nothing!" In accordance with this wish, the work was performed and recorded in its entirety.
The premiere of Lohengrin took place in Weimar on August 28, 1850, under Liszt's direction. Wagner himself could not attend it as persona non grata. The duration of the performance even exceeded Wagner's expectations, which he explained by the fact that Liszt allowed the singers to follow the German opera tradition and to shape their recitatives as they saw fit. On September 8, 1850, Wagner wrote to Liszt: "On the other hand, I have endeavored to weigh and designate the speaking expression of the speech so surely and sharply that the singers should only need to sing the notes exactly according to their value in the indicated tempo.
