The show, which rolled across the open-air stage of the Greek Theater night after night in the late summer of 1963, drew fans as if on pilgrimage to the mountains of Hollywood. Many who couldn't get a ticket scaled the surrounding trees to at least admire the Calypso Man from a distance.
Also lying in wait, with sound equipment at the ready, were the people from the RCA company, which released the highly anticipated album the following year. Some of the songs, such as the wriggling "Zombie Jamboree," "Look Over Yonder" and the delightfully drippy schmaltz "Try To Remember," had previously only been available as studio versions. Most of the other numbers were brand new and sounded for the first time in tingling live atmosphere, which is authentically reproduced on this record.
Here a laugh as a receipt for a casual saying, there a board rumble, then again concentrated silence of a spellbound listening audience - such a thing exists only on stage.
For Belafonte connoisseurs, these recordings are considered the crowning achievement of the artistically highly productive phase of the years 1959 to 1963, and of the many fine albums, this is one of the best.

We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner for wet washing your vinyl. Even new records from high quality production will benefit from it once again.
