VAUGHAN BROTHERS THE - Family Style (200g)
With his amazingly mature guitar, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the eighties. Drawing equally on blues musicians like Albert King, Otis Rush, and Hubert Sumlin, as well as rock and roll musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, and jazz guitarists like Kenny Burrell, Vaughan developed a uniquely versatile, fiery style with no echoes of other guitarists, regardless of genre.
Stevie Ray created music beyond what most musicians are capable of, but for this collaborative work in the studio from 1990, he returned to what he loved: fast music and playing with his brother, who was his lifelong idol. In his early years, Stevie Ray Vaughan often said that he would like to record an album together with his brother. He fulfilled that wish with his last studio album, released less than a month after his death. The liner notes end with "Thanks Mama V. for letting us play." Nile Rodgers was responsible for the skillful production; by not hiring either guitarist's band (neither Double Trouble nor the Fabulous Thunderbirds), the record is bluesy but by no means purist. Jimmie makes his vocal debut on "White Boots" and "Good Texan," with the brothers blurring the lines between the respective styles of playing you'd expect from them - Stevie strives at times to not sound consistently sharp, while Jimmie moves into Albert King territory.
Just as with our highly touted boxed reissue of "Texas Hurricane," Analogue Productions issues these Stevie Ray Vaughan tracks with excellent sound on 200g vinyl. Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound is responsible for cutting the vinyl using the latest VMS 80 cutting machine. Gary Salstrom managed the electroplating and, of course, Quality Record Pressings handled the vinyl pressing.
Not a single link in this chain is not absolutely top notch, the best money can buy. We love the blues passionately AND Stevie Ray and it shows here in spades.
