LITTLE FEAT - Little Feat (180g)
Blues, R&B, country, rock & roll: Little Feat are all of these. The band was discovered and signed by producer Russ Titelman in 1969. Two years later, the eponymous debut album was released and became a gigantic success. Unfortunately only with record critics.
Little Feat didn't just consist of gifted musicians. What set them apart was the dark humor of band leader Lowell George. George, who had previously also played with Zappa's Mothers of Invention, wrote short stories for this album, songs about truckers on speed and pot, waitresses and lovesick losers. One of these songs was the trucker anthem "Willin'", which is presented here in an acoustic version with Ry Cooder on guitar. Even before the LP was released, Linda Ronstadt covered the song and the band recorded it again for the second album "Sailin' Shoes" - this time in a band version.
Ed Ward wrote in Rolling Stone in 1971: "I think I've heard the album 50 times since I got it, and it just gets better and better. Perhaps it should be pointed out that the critics never quite agreed on whether the album deserved 4 ½ or rather 5 stars.
