NYRO LAURA - New York Tendaberry (180g)
Dirt and sorrow, grace and pain, this is "New York Tendaberry", Laura Nyro's masterpiece. The weave of great beauty and painful metaphors is not for the pop-oriented masses, who are used to the easily digestible versions of "Save the Country" and "Time and Love" interpreted by others.
Nyro's voice, as comforting as it is full of despair, takes both songs on their own intricate journey. One imagines 24 hours in the life of an urban New Yorker, she is as much observer as object. She wakes up when her husband leaves her ("You Don't Love Me When I Cry"), takes us by the hand to follow her to the subway to sing joyful harmonies with the echo of the trains ("Mercy on Broadway") and then to "Gibsom Street". It will send a shiver down your spine, if you are sensitive, because they hang stray cats on Gibsom Street. At the end, in the powerless, deep night, a brief celebration in her neighborhood with exploding firecrackers, dust and drifts. But she comes back down to earth as she looks through silver tears at the humanity that accompanies her life ("New York Tendaberry").
This final song on the LP is the highlight of the LP. Laura Nyro's incredible voice and delivery are of this time, now. It was and always will be for those who love and want to listen to this extraordinary artist.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner for wet washing your vinyl. Even new records from high-quality production will benefit from this once again.
