PRESLEY ELVIS - Elvis Is Back (180g)
The elaborate strategies to keep Elvis fresh ("A Date With Elvis" / RCA LPM-2011) and comforting slogans with which the management of the Elvis community had sweetened the King's artistically unproductive military time were followed by the big coup. "Elvis Is Back" was the eagerly awaited announcement, which was turned into a major media event by American radio and television stations.
With the still-warm discharge certificate in his luggage, Elvis went into the studio in March 1960 and recorded a series of later worldwide hits such as "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and "It's Now Or Never". While these cuddly songs caused a sensation as singles, the LP with numbers such as "Dirty, Dirty Feeling", "Like A Baby" and "The Thrill Of Your Love" shows Elvis' growing qualities as a rock, blues and gospel singer. In "Fever", accompanied solely by bass and percussion, the master proves that his voice - despite all fears - had lost none of its tingling eroticism.
In its stylistic diversity, this album represents one of the most ingenious works of early Elvis, which was followed by nothing comparable before his great comeback in 1968 ("From Elvis In Memphis" / RCA LSP-4155).
