ATLAS Speaker Stand BT606 - black - 60cm height - B-Tech

Compact speakers only truly come into their own when they stand free and at the right height. The B-Tech Atlas makes exactly that possible – at a fair price and with a clean, elegant design that fits into any living room.

The stands are made of metal and come as a set of two, in either silver or black and in three heights: 40, 60 or 80 cm. The hollow columns can be filled, and spikes and washers to protect your floor are already included.

On a shelf or sideboard, compact speakers are often placed too low, too close to the wall and on a piece of furniture that resonates along with them. The result: boomy, imprecise bass and a flat stereo image.

On a stand, the speakers are free-standing in the room. You can position them carefully and set them up with some distance from the wall – the bass becomes more defined, the imaging more precise and the music detaches itself more convincingly from the cabinets.

The columns of the Atlas are hollow and can be filled. With dry quartz sand or lead shot you increase the mass of the stand and damp the ringing of the metal tube. The stand becomes more stable and resonances are reduced – many listeners describe the sound as calmer and tighter as a result.

Tip: use dry filling material only and pour it in with a funnel. Lead shot is considerably heavier than sand – wear gloves when handling it.

Spikes with matching washers are included. The spikes provide a rock-steady, well-defined footing – even on carpet. On parquet, laminate or tiles, place the washers underneath so the spike tips don't damage the floor.

Alternatively, foam pads decouple the speaker from the stand: they damp vibrations and stop the cabinet from sliding on or scratching the top plate.

As a rule of thumb, the tweeter should be roughly at ear level at your listening position. To work this out, add the height from the bottom of your speaker to its tweeter to the stand height. For most bookshelf speakers the 60 cm version is a good starting point; the 40 cm version suits larger compact speakers or low seating, the 80 cm version small satellite speakers or high seating positions.

Also make sure your speaker sits securely on the top plate and does not exceed the specified load capacity.

Load capacity as specified by the manufacturer.
