Turntable accessories - Record cleaning
Dust in the groove is the silent sound killer of any vinyl system. It causes crackling, puts a strain on the needle and, in the worst case, irrevocably degrades groove information - and therefore sound. The Pro-Ject Sweep it S2 tackles this problem with an elegant, precision-engineered solution: as a moving cleaning arm, it moves synchronously with the tonearm over the record and sweeps dust directly out of the groove, fractions of a second before the stylus passes through. The result: cleaner tracking, longer stylus life and a noticeably smoother, livelier sound.
What clearly distinguishes the S2 from simple tracking brushes is its patented neodymium magnetic bearing: developed in collaboration with engineer Klaus Mick, the magnetic stabilization system prevents the dreaded skating effect, in which an uncontrolled brush pulls uncontrollably towards the center of the record, turning benefit into damage. The aluminum arm boom is balanced on a single-point bearing - precise, smooth-running and without annoying resistance. The heavy metal base with fine height adjustment ensures a stable stand on almost any turntable cabinet.

Technology & mode of operation
The heart of the Sweep it S2 is its magnetically stabilized single-point bearing. Conventional tracking brushes have an inherent problem: as soon as the brush touches the rotating platter, a force is generated that pulls the arm inwards in an uncontrolled manner - just like a tonearm, but without any compensation. The result is a brush that does not move with the tonearm, but overtakes it and is at best useless, at worst harmful. Pro-Ject solves this problem with a system of neodymium magnets and an iron core counterweight: the magnetic attraction force is so precisely calibrated that it exactly neutralizes the skating effect. As the aluminum arm itself is paramagnetic, it acts as a defined spacer in the magnetic field - a physically elegant detail that shows how much development work has gone into this compact accessory.
The brush itself is made of soft natural hair, which was deliberately chosen instead of carbon fiber or microfiber: It is gentle enough not to damage the sensitive groove structures and effective enough to remove the finest dust from the deepest groove areas - exactly where the needle tip scans. The contact force of the brush arm is approx. 6 g, which is ensured by the precise height adjustment of the base. The enclosed locking screw mechanism allows the working height to be continuously adjusted and locked within a range of around 1 cm.
The Sweep it S2 is placed on one of the two left corners of the turntable - which one fits better depends on the shape and housing of the respective turntable. Correct alignment is crucial for the function: ideally, the brush should be aligned with the spindle. Deviations of up to 1.5-2 cm are easily compensated for by the magnetic bearing design; larger deviations can result in a residual skating effect. Once the position has been found and the height set, the brush stays there permanently - simply place your arm on the plate when the music starts and put it back on the arm rest provided when it ends. No cleaning agent, no effort, no ritual.
The S2 is available in two finishes - black and silver - and therefore blends in visually with almost any turntable environment, from sober modern to classic audiophile racks. The weight of 430 g gives the device the necessary stability without weighing down the turntable. If you are looking for a more elegant but less complicated alternative without magnetic bearings, the Pro-Ject Sweep it E is the entry-level model - but the S2 is the clearly superior choice for anyone who wants to get the best out of their record collection.
