Turntables · Handmade in England
Some turntables you simply buy – others mark the beginning of a passion. The Rega Replay belongs to the latter. Rega’s engineers in Southend-on-Sea, England, spent three years refining this turntable with one clear goal: genuine high-fidelity vinyl playback at an affordable price, with no compromises where it truly matters for sound.
Behind the Replay lie more than 50 years of experience. Since its founding in 1973, Rega has followed a philosophy that runs through every model: low mass, high rigidity. A turntable that stores little energy itself feeds little resonance back to the stylus – the music stays clear, lively and precise in its timing. This very principle lies at the heart of the Replay’s skeletal design, its handmade RB110 tonearm and its phenolic resin platter.
At the same time, the Replay makes life easy for its owner: the Carbon MM cartridge comes factory-fitted, setup takes just a few minutes, and the very first record rewards you with musical enjoyment, dynamics and detail. The package is rounded off by Rega’s lifetime warranty – a promise that shows how much the manufacturer trusts its own craftsmanship.

The lightweight skeletal chassis is the logical application of an idea Rega has perfected in its reference turntables: material where it adds stability – and nowhere else. Less mass means less stored vibrational energy, which would otherwise show up as colouration or smeared bass. Weighing just 2.2 kg with a compact 415 × 320 mm footprint, the Replay also fits on almost any sideboard or shelf.
The platter is driven by the EBLT drive belt (Extremely Black Low Tolerance), which Rega manufactures to particularly tight tolerances. The result is smooth, even rotation and stable pitch – an audible advantage with piano, sustained string notes and vocals. Power comes from a low-noise 24 V synchronous motor, whose low operating voltage keeps motor vibration to a minimum, so the turntable itself remains inaudible even in quiet passages.
The phenolic resin platter is made from a material Rega has valued in its entry-level models for years: dimensionally stable, low in resonance and with carefully distributed mass. Its flywheel effect smooths out the slightest speed fluctuations, lending playback the calm and composure usually associated with considerably more expensive turntables.
Tonearms are Rega’s true core competence. Since the legendary RB300 of the 1980s at the latest, arms from Essex have been regarded as a benchmark worldwide – numerous manufacturers have modelled their designs on them. The handmade RB110 brings this DNA to the entry level: a rigid, precisely mounted arm that guides the stylus through the groove with minimal friction. The less play and self-resonance a tonearm has, the more information makes it from the groove into the signal – audible in cleanly drawn contours, clear vocals and a stable soundstage.
Factory-fitted is the Rega Carbon, a moving magnet cartridge specifically matched to Rega tonearms. It sounds balanced, dynamic and pleasantly relaxed – ideal for a growing record collection that includes new pressings as well as older treasures from the flea market. With the cartridge already in place, the most demanding part of setup is taken care of: fit the counterweight as described in the manual, place the belt, done.
Sonically, the Replay stands firmly in the house tradition: Rega turntables are famous for their rhythm, timing and musical engagement – that hard-to-measure but instantly tangible quality that gets your foot tapping. The Replay combines this liveliness with detailed, dynamic playback that clearly separates instruments and places voices naturally and vividly in the room.
In everyday use, it impresses with its simplicity: the removable dust cover protects tonearm and platter when not in use, and operation is deliberately simple and manual – placing the record and lowering the tonearm becomes a small ritual that lets you rediscover the value of listening. For best performance, a level, stable surface away from the loudspeakers is recommended; connection requires an MM phono input on your amplifier or a separate phono preamplifier.
The Replay is aimed at anyone who wants to step into the world of vinyl deliberately and without detours: newcomers who have no interest in flimsy plastic turntables, returning listeners whose record collection finally deserves to be heard again, and experienced listeners looking for a high-quality second system for the living room or study. It is no stopgap toy but a genuine hi-fi turntable that can grow with its owner.
Those who later want to go further will find the natural next step in the Rega Planar series – and can already get even more out of the Replay itself with a higher-grade cartridge or a good phono preamplifier. The perfect start to a lifelong passion for music.
