The mains supply is the first link in the signal chain of any hi-fi system - and also the most frequently neglected. Modern power grids are chronically contaminated with RF and EMI noise: switching power supplies, dimmers, mobile phones, WLAN routers and industrial joints constantly feed in high-frequency interference signals that are transmitted directly to the sensitive components of any audio system. The result is an ever-present background noise that masks quiet signals - precisely those overtones, room signals and fine dynamics that make a musical experience authentic. The Furman Elite 10Ei uses professionally developed filter technology to tackle precisely this problem.

Furman has been the global market leader in professional power management for over 40 years. The company was founded by Jim Furman, who was the sound engineer responsible for the Grateful Dead's legendary live album "Europe '72" - an origin that still characterizes the brand today. What is in daily use in studios, live productions and broadcasting systems worldwide has been consistently adapted for demanding home cinema and hi-fi applications with the Elite series. The Elite 10Ei is designed for 230 V and is therefore the direct entry into professional mains quality for the European home sector.

The quality of mains voltage has deteriorated dramatically in recent decades. Switch-mode power supplies in millions of devices, LED lighting, frequency converters and wireless communication standards generate permanent broadband noise on the 230 V line, which is transmitted directly into the sensitive analog electronics via the power supply units of each connected component. Standard surge protection strips cannot filter this noise - they were developed for protection, not for sound.

Furman's exclusive Linear Filtering Technology solves this problem with a different approach to conventional filters: attenuation is linear across the entire relevant frequency spectrum, regardless of the connected load and the time of day. This means: no drop in performance when the rack is full, no changes in sound depending on the load, no compromises at peak levels. The measured noise suppression is over 40 dB in the range from 10 kHz to 100 kHz and over 80 dB from 100 kHz to 1 GHz - values that far exceed the performance of simple interference suppression filters.

The Elite 10Ei's surge protection is based on Furman's patented Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) - a protection system that differs fundamentally from the MOV-based (metal oxide varistors) protection circuits of cheap surge bars. Conventional MOV protection strips divert voltage spikes to the ground line, where they can contaminate digital circuits - and they sacrifice themselves in the process by being permanently destroyed by sufficiently strong spikes without the user realizing it.

Furman's SMP system works differently: a network of series inductors, rectifiers and high-voltage capacitors slows down and absorbs the surge before it reaches the connected devices - without damaging itself in the process. The circuit is designed for multiple pulses of 6,000 V / 3,000 A, and Zero Ground Contamination ensures that no energy reaches the protective ground wire - critical for digital components that rely on clean grounding to prevent data errors and device resets.

The Elite 10Ei offers eight IEC plug outputs in two functionally separate groups. The four audio outputs are supplied with linear filtered AC power and are optimized for amplifiers, preamplifiers, CD players and analogue source devices. In addition to the linear filter, the four video/digital outputs are provided with an ultrasonic filter - a second filter stage that has been specially developed for the high-frequency interference of modern digital and video devices such as projectors, streaming devices, AV receivers and TV displays. This separation prevents the switching noise of digital components from flowing back into the sensitive analog electronics.

In addition, there are four coaxial antenna connections (RF/satellite), which are also used to suppress and surge-protect antenna signals - with an insertion loss of less than 0.1 dB, so that the signal quality is fully preserved. The digital front display shows the mains voltage in real time - a valuable diagnostic tool in regions with unstable supply networks and for system configuration.

The housing of the Elite 10Ei complies with the 19-inch standard with 1 U height - so it can be installed in any professional rack or operated as a compact standalone unit on a shelf (feet are fitted at the factory). The retractable LED work lights on the front illuminate the rack contents below as required - dimmable, extendable and automatically switching off when retracted. A detail that offers real utility in everyday studio life and in dark home cinema racks.

The Elite 10Ei is designed for 230 V / 10 A and is therefore ready for immediate use in all European installations.
