Fozgometer V2 - Musical Surroundings
It is back, the adjustment legend - The Fozgometer in the version 2 - Unique device for the correct adjustment of the needle azimuth - from the American analog specialist Musical Surroundings.
This unusual device enables the ambitious High Ender the under normal circumstances extremely difficult adjustment of the azimuth. With the help of a test record you are able to adjust the important and sound-relevant needle angle quickly, easily and absolutely perfectly.
Strictly speaking, the azimuth is the angle of the needle (of the pickup) when viewed from the front relative to the record. This is achieved by the correct rotation of the headshell or the entire tone arm. Under normal circumstances, this adjustment is always just an estimate, usually set with the help of a small mirror. One observes in the mirror lying on the plate the mirror image of the pickup whether it is reproduced correctly laterally reversed. With this technique it is extremely difficult to achieve a completely correct azimuth.
However, this is necessary to achieve perfect playback and channel separation. Only when the needle is exactly perpendicular in the groove, you get the maximum sound performance of your overall system. The right and left channels are respectively stored in the inner and outer flank of the record groove.
It is obvious that in case of an improper adjustment the correct reproduction of the two channels and thus the sonic performance, especially the resolution and spatial representation, will suffer.
If you have a particularly good ear, you will certainly be able to correct the azimuth by frequent test sessions until it comes as close as possible to the optimum. However, this requires a fair amount of experience, patience and high-quality recordings.
Adjusting only by means of a test record (measuring the crosstalk) also proves to be unsuccessful, since it is not possible for the human mind to remember the heard volume absolute values.
The Fozgometer is not cheap, but for every audiophile -who has invested some savings in his system components- the cheapest, fastest and most perfect way to get the last out of his analog system.
You will appreciate this device in your further analog career, which surely still holds one or the other cartridge, tonearm or drive exchange ready.
Please note that for the measurement with the Fogzogmenter a test record like the Acoustic Sounds Ultimate Test LP is necessary, which can play a 1KHz test tone, in each case channel separated as well as a 1kHz mono signal.
