Tonearm & turntable scales

Cartridge scales are tools used in audio technology to ensure the correct setting of the tracking force of the cartridge on the record. They are an essential part of turntable adjustment and are required for the following reasons:

1. Protecting the records
The contact force with which the stylus of the pickup presses on the record should be within a certain range. Too much force can damage the record by wearing or deforming the grooves. Too low a contact force can cause the stylus to skip or jump in the grooves. The cartridge scale helps to set the optimum tracking force to prevent damage to the records.
2. Optimum sound quality
The correct tracking force is also decisive for the sound quality. If the tracking force is not set correctly, this can lead to distortion, inaccurate playback and a diminished sound image. A pickup scale allows you to set the tracking force precisely to achieve the best possible sound quality.
3. Protecting the cartridge
An incorrectly set tracking force can also affect the cartridge itself by wearing out the stylus prematurely or damaging the suspension of the cartridge. Using a balance will ensure that the cartridge remains in a safe and optimal operating condition.
4. Consistent playback
The use of a cartridge scale ensures that the tracking force is consistent with every use. This is important to ensure that records are always played under the same conditions, which is particularly important for audiophiles who want consistent sound quality.

Most cartridge scales are precise calibration tools that allow the tracking force to be set to the exact weight recommended by the cartridge manufacturer. These tools are essential for turntable enthusiasts, audiophiles and anyone who values high quality playback and the protection of their records.
