The mains supply is the underestimated enemy of every hi-fi system. It is not only what flows through the cables that counts - but also what radiates uncontrolled into the system via open sockets. Empty Schuko sockets in the power strip and on the room walls act like small antennas: They pick up high-frequency interference signals from the environment and feed them directly into the power circuit. The result is not a dramatic flaw that you notice immediately - it is a gradual clouding of the sound, a slight hardening of the treble, a less gripping bass foundation, a stage action that never quite settles down. This is exactly where the Black Forest Audio ZeroPlug™ M comes in: as a passive terminating plug in Schuko format, developed in Germany, which reliably terminates open sockets and keeps high-frequency interference out of the mains.

Anyone who already knows and appreciates the ZeroPlug™ C for open cinch and digital inputs will intuitively understand the effect of the ZeroPlug™ M - but will still be surprised: According to the manufacturer and user experience, the effect on the circuit is almost twice as strong. This is in the nature of things: while the ZeroPlug C terminates individual device inputs, the ZeroPlug M intervenes in the common mains circuit, which supplies all connected components simultaneously. A cleaner mains environment therefore benefits the entire chain - from the source to the loudspeaker.

The application of the ZeroPlug™ M follows a simple logic: proximity to the system first. You start by closing all free Schuko sockets in the mains strip of the hi-fi system. This first step is often clearly audible. This is followed by the open wall sockets in the listening room. If you are curious at this point, you can try an interesting test: A device connected to the mains - such as a PC that is not actively used or a standby device - is disconnected from the mains and the now free socket is closed with a ZeroPlug™ M. The sound relevance of this step surprises many users: even a socket on the opposite side of the room, far away from the system, still has a measurable effect on the sound result.

The reason for this lies in the physics of the AC mains: all sockets in a circuit are connected in parallel and share the same mains supply. High-frequency interference signals - generated by switching power supplies, dimmers, LED drivers, computer power supplies or other consumers - propagate through this network and radiate from every open socket like a small antenna. Each closed socket reduces this radiation area. The more ZeroPlug™ M is in use, the quieter and cleaner the mains environment becomes - and the clearer the sound potential of the system becomes.

Users unanimously describe the effect in terms of sound: the sound is calmer and tidier, rhythmic structures are revealed more clearly, timbres are more differentiated. The stage opens up, individual instruments are easier to locate and even at higher volumes, the sound remains relaxed and effortless. Anyone already familiar with the ZeroPlug™ C will understand the direction in which the journey is heading - and will still not have fully anticipated the scale of the gain.

The ZeroPlug™ M fits seamlessly into any existing system - without conversion, without intervention, without risk. It consumes no power, does not affect any protective functions and is reversible at any time. The pure copper cap can oxidize slightly over time - but this does not impair its function. Anyone fitting several sockets in a room will notice this: The effect scales. More plugs mean a cleaner mains environment and, as a rule, a noticeably greater gain in sound quality.

It is recommended to keep at least one slot in the power strip free for the Black Forest Audio Harmonizer - a passive mains optimization device that works synergistically with the ZeroPlug™ M and further enhances the effect of both products. The combination of several ZeroPlug™ M and a Harmonizer is considered by many users to be a particularly effective configuration for a maximally clean network environment.

The ZeroPlug™ M is not limited to audio: Users also report significant improvements in the home cinema and surround range - smoother color surfaces, flicker-free edges and a deeper, more spatial image display in video systems. A simple test that is often more convincing in practice than in theory.
